Re: BBC to Launch 5 New HD Channels
It's not as though the BBC have any other worthwhile channels to broadcast in HD (ignoring regional), they're adding BBC News, BBC Three, BBC Four, CBeebies and CBBC which only leave 2 others. Would people rather they broadcast BBC parliament and BBC Alba in HD instead?
HD will eventually become the standard and IMO every step taken towards getting rid of crappy SD broadcasts the better.

exactly so why waste it on Cbeebies for gods sake. Of course you do realise that quality has been sacrificed for quantity do you not? 100s of channels of repeats over and over again only a handful of quality channels loads just wasting bandwidth. In 10 years people will be wanting 4k resolution and can't have it cuz the bandwidths saturated with crap

This really is a pointless argument, isn't it? Let's stop moaning about things that get better and concentrate on what could be improved. As I have said before, HD may not make a lot of difference to you, depending on the technology you are using. On a lot of big screens, the picture becomes a bit ropey and pixellated in SD. HD resolves this nicely. Obviously, you don't have to watch it, so why complain?

Re: BBC to Launch 5 New HD Channels
It's a shame the BBC cannot launch a Sports channel - that way, at least they wont keep switching channels around when Wimbledon over runs !

Nice that you can afford that high end technology, tizmeinnit! However, some have TVs that are not high end, and where these are large screens, the picture quality is nicely enhanced by HD.
I don't see why the kids have to put up with inferior picture quality.
