They don't ban people who go over 1GB/hour or 3GB/day.

If you hit that amount they might ask you to confirm that you're not tethering, and if you confirm you're not, you can carry on and fill your boots.
They don't want to scare potential customers away so its obviously worded carefully. Posts by users in their forums suggest that they do ban people.

Pesonally what I find more important is that there is usually no clear explanation when signing up to these services as to what limits their 'unlimted' services have and if it applies to just phone data or tethering too. We use mobile data in many ways now and its easy to get caught out.

Three has unlmited data, even if you tether. Giffgaff claim unlimited but can ban you for hitting their pre-determined limit per hour and day. They also don't let you tether. My issue is both are advertised as unlimited but one product is clearly different from the other.

Its the same as virgins unlimited broadband which has many limits, unlike sky And bt's unlimted

Only if they tether.

Giffgaff have a very clear explanation: you get unlimited data.

No they don't.

It's very clear when you choose one of the unlimited data plans that this is the case. The bans are people who think they can ignore the ban on tethering. Noone gets banned for using unlimited mobile data.

In what way? How is unlimited clearly different to unlimited?

Except it's not.

Are you for real?

Three offers unlimited data. GiffGaff says it only offers unlimited mobile data.

That one difference is easily missed by consumers. If you are a heavy mobile data user on GiffGaff there is a good chance you will get banned. Ergo there are limits.

Its GiffGaffs word against your own as to if the traffic you are using is tethered or not due to the way tethered use can be made to look like actual phone use.

GiffGaff forums show people get banned for hitting not set in stone limits on GiffGaffs not so unlimited unlimited tariff.

Threads like these will help future unlimited data plan or unlimited mobile data plan purchasers get better informed. Until this discussion started I bet there were quite a few unaware of GiffGaffs limits and the many bans

Well, looks like you've already made your mind up, so you're welcome to think whatever you like.

Re: Trying to Wean Britons From Unlimited Mobile Data

Found this site that compares plans and they say that GiffGaff is truly unlimited: http://mobilenetworkcomparison.org.u...footnote_5_801

So either they are confused or something else is going on.
