They're rolling them out in every country UPC is in so I would imagine so.

Its a DVB-C box, so all they need is a red tinted UI and a Virgin Media sticker on the front.

does it do everything TiVo does? if so all well and good if not then they can not reduce the features they already offer that would mean business suicide

What like unmetered downloads for top tier broadband customers?

Looking at it I can't see an obvious wishlist function, but I may have just missed it. Otherwise it has 4 tuners, integrated search, TV anywhere style ios apps, multiroom streaming and makes a point of apparently very fast channel changes. The ui looks very smart. Looks like a good box. I've said elsewhere that I can't see Virgin abandoning TiVo for at least the natural life of the current TiVo box, but if horizon is the general shape of things to come then it would appear that Virgin and Liberty are a pretty good fit with similar ideas about the proper future of cable.

Just browsing the UPC Swiss site and notice they will supply just a CI card. If only that idea would come to the UK.

Cheers

Just found this,
http://advanced-television.com/2012/...c-netherlands/

the Horizon has built in Dnla so you can stream from Pc`s, tablets ect. Only downside is the HDD size. Love TiVo but this seems to be a better box.

Re: So, why is the VM PVR is called TiVo?

So we have change the plug and away it would go ?
Companies change products all the time so I can not see that being a great mountain to overcome. I am sure a good PR company could spin it so all the TiVo lovers here would salivate over it - I give you V+ ,Samsung boxes, then TiVo .

Itshim whatever you might think or want to think there will no rollback of the TiVo as it has shown itself to be loved by customers in the UK and if anything does happen then it is likely there would be the adoption of the TiVo box across parts of Europe.

I really do not care if every TiVo was scrapped , gold plated , or given a life time award it does what I want & that is fine.

That does not mean that at a point in the future all new customers would not get the new, super, so much better that last one, box. If launched I can see certain members & users of TiVo saying - its soooo much better - wheres mine History dear boy history

Re: So, why is the VM PVR is called TiVo?

I think you're both right. TiVo is here to stay for a while yet, but the current version was never going to be Virgin's box for ever. All this really means is that when the current TiVo is due to be replaced it's unlikely it'll be with another TiVo. But what TiVo has done is set a base standard in terms of stb functionality - whatever comes next simply won't be allowed to be worse than what we have now.

As far as I'm concerned I don't care if my stb is a TiVo, but it certainly has to match what it can do.

Totally agree- Do not care what it is & as TiVo was brought up to scratch with V+ I am happy with it -( Reminders, for those with short memories )

It will be the status quo for now. Liberty are not going to dump horizon which has been in development for years and which is being rolled out across Europe in the next 6 months.I am sure TiVo will remain for some time, but in a few years I would expect to see new customers or people changing boxes to get Horizon. It makes sense, no fees payable to TiVo and they would be able integrate systems across the whole Company.
