Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

It is defo an official VM quote before you want to start doing damage control. I can't remember exactly where it came from but it was something like a Q&A section on the speed doubling page a few months ago.

And just for the record, I absolutely hate hipocracy. It is absolutely appalling that VM claim to have tested the VMNG300 (hence my sarcastic comment) and tell everyone it doesn't work when it is convenient for them to do so and now retract it. It either does work or it doesn't, it isnt dependant on what mood they are in.

I would appreciate it if you gave the powers that be the feedback Nopanic because stuff like this really pee's me off. I am that passionate about it that I a now going to waste my time and fine the thread with the link to the VM page for you

---------- Post added at 21:54 ---------- Previous post was at 21:49 ----------

found the thread, just need to find the VM page now:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...bit-limit.html

---------- Post added at 22:02 ---------- Previous post was at 21:54 ----------

READ IT AND WEEP:

If I current use a VMNG300 will I need to switch to using a Super Hub?

We've tested the VMNG300 and it can only support a speed of approximately 92Mb on our network so if you want to get your full speed upgrade you'll need a Super Hub which we'll send to you free of charge. We know that some of you might be concerned about the Super Hub's performance but the last firmware upgrade at the end of 2011 made some significant improvements in performance and reliability alongside introducing modem mode.

From half way down the 3rd post at:

Glad to see they are happy lieing to customers.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

First off what gives you the impression I have any desire to do damage control or defend anyone about anything .. rather aggressive considering I only ask a very simple and IMO fair question.

Why not feed it back to Mark W who appears to have posted it, or Ben who probably wrote it ? or at least will knew who did.

Personally, I haven't tested a large enough range of 300's to give an average.. have you ?

There is no issue of averages. "can only" explicitly states it cannot ever support more under any circumstances. Which is patently false.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

While I think Colonel Maxipads was a bit ott, it is correct that the statement is pretty false.

But of course if VM insist on claiming the superhub has "unbeatable wireless" and that their network is so good, we already know to take any statements from them with a dose of salt. Probably enough salt to kill an elephant.

That and how would they have tested them? We already know they 300 can handle 100meg speeds, so getting anything lower is likely to be network related and something which would also affect the superhub.

My post says average, so thus I'm asking about averages .. stop trying to attack me ..

Sounds logical to me.

true and I apolagise. I hate being lied to and I hate hipocracy so I went on the attach straight away to try and get a point across. I don't need to test anything. I have had 2 VMNG300s which have performed flawlessly and many many other users have also posted speed test results in this forum proving that it can do 100mbit and beyond. In contrast the complete opposite has been shown to be true for shub yet VM keep flouting it as the best thing since sliced bread.

VM chose to make the statement that they "tested" the VMNG300 so the onus is on them to substantiate such claims. A assertion like that from a major isp should be rock solid and included thorough industry standard tests. We all know that not to be the case though otherwise the shub wouldnt have lasted as long as it has and they would have made this comment about the VMNG300.

Seems like they are doing everything backwards.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

well VMs "testing" is always proved to be a load of [Mod Edit] - look at the recent beta test for the superhub:

here you go, test this, post any feedback, it will all be ignored and we will go ahead and just release a beta

Stop trying to move the goalposts?

It only takes one case to prove a statement like the one VM made to be logically false, the whole idea of averages is entirely irrelevant.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

modems and hardware dont work on averages, they can either achieve a certain speed or they can't. We have proven that the VMNG300 can do 100mbits when VM said it can't.

If you want to talk about averages then we are talking about the average speeds users get from their local network segment which will vary by area due to utilisation and over subscription and that is nothing to do with what the VMNG300 can do and VM shouldn't have made that statement.

Have they changed their mind? I suspect not. Database error? Almost certainly!

Yet another example of how their internal processes and systems get it wrong...

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

Does anyone know whether the VMG is capable of the 10mb upload? I thought i'd call retentions to chance my luck and try and get the billing code changed to see if i can get the 10mb up but the guy came back after speaking to the techs saying that i should already be getting 10mb up and it's because i don't have a superhub, apparently the ambit300 (thats what he was calling my modem anyway) can't do that speed.

They're sending one out free but i just found it odd, the VMG has been perfect for the 100mb down and usually tops me out at 12.5MB/s ish.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

What is your configuration on the modem at the moment?

At lot of people are still on 100/5 as the upload increase will not happen just yet. The 'original' 100 package was the only one to offer the 100/10 I think.

My own VMNG300 is configured to 100/5 at the moment.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

The config is for 5mb up, i mentioned that to him but he still insisted the superhub will sort me out. I was really just chancing my luck with the call but he's adamant my areas upgrades are done and i should be on 10mb up.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

I would doubt it, General Maximus who posts here, also has a VMNG300 and is provisioned for 100/10 so you don't need a SH to get it.
It just typical of VM support, it is a bit flakey to say the least.
