Students leaving a local network is a local network change

Same here... I think it more than likely a peering upgrade/change after the spotify issues ( http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/5...-equation.html )

Holy Moses - if the peering was too poor to carry audio streaming I'm surprised the fibre wasn't melting down.

Re: Is it just me or has VM made some substantial network upgrades?
[QUOTE=Risco;35448906]For the last couple of weeks I have noticed a tremendous improvement in my speeds, jitter, ping and latency. I am not on the beta R36, have I just been lucky or is there something going on in VM network? I am now not getting wasted as easily due to crappy ping on BF3 and my downloads are constitent. All I need now is a SHUB that can provide 100mbps over wireless and I am set. Quite ironic when I was on the verge of leaving for BT Infinity. I can't believe I am saying this, but bloody bravo Virgin!
A Superhub that will do100mbps wireless? Can I have some of what you're taking please? Joking aside, there has been a massive improvement with regard to jitter and latency of late. It would seem that VM have upped their game recently and as you say "Bravo Virgin". We're on the R36 trial and so far it is an huge step forwards. The network upgrades are an entirely different issue Let's hope that this is not a flash in the pan mate

It seems that your definition of the local network is a tad different from mine.
Having seen your many varied posts in numerous threads over the last few days I can't make up my mind if you are trolling or just being a plain arse.

Re: Is it just me or has VM made some substantial network upgrades?
Just considering all the possibilities.
As others have said, a particular channel set can cover a large geographic area, and not necessarily in an obvious or logical manner. It's the shared capacity that matters not the physical location of the users, people 10 miles away could be sharing your capacity (and affecting your connection) while others on the next street don't
My definition of local on VM would be everything from the CMTS down to the end user, the edge network being everything from the CMTS to the core, and the core being well, the bits that have core in their name.

Which has already been proven false.
Good choice.

The contention point is surely the optical node and that is virtually always within half a mile or so as it gets fed by coax which needs an amp every few hundred meters. The same set of channels almost certainly are used 10 miles away but they aren't using my capacity as my traffic won't be on them just as those people's traffic won't be on mine. Surely you can't believe that my 45.8MHz upstream is shared with everybody else in the country who happens to be on the same frequency?

Re: Is it just me or has VM made some substantial network upgrades?
I think the "substantial upgrades" are more like substantial changes to p2p throttling, tried p2p'ing before and i might as well have drove to all the seeders houses and copied the data onto a memory stick
