Strange question
Most people consider 'Video on Demand' & live streaming to be 'the future' of TV and despite benefits of Tivo recording regular TV the question thats often posed is
Does scheduled TV have a future?

Yes it will still have a future as there will always be major events on at certain times that a lot of people will watch.

100% agree Den , I always look what's happening in the US for the next big thing and linear broadcast TV schedules are still as big there.

The point I'm making is will they be so popular in say 5 to 8 years time when the majority of customers should be on TiVo? If TiVo is continually recording your favourite programmes for you, and new programmes you'll probably like, why would you ever need to use On Demand again?

Then TiVo has failed It has not picked up your viewing habits and let you down badly. If however all the hype about TiVo is true, this is a problem you will not have to worry about.

Tivo (at least Series 1) is not always that accurate when it tries to determine what you like. Even when it is, theres the fact that what you like may change, or you may have friends/family round.
Tivo will never, IMO, replace on demand, and I don't believe it's intended to do so.

I don't have TiVo but how does it work if you have multiple people in your house giving all sorts of programmes thumbs up and thumbs down? For example the Mrs. and I do not have the same taste in TV whatsoever. How does TiVo manage to suggest programmes accurately if you have multiple viewing preferences all using the same box?

Currently they are grouped as one, but I believe user names will be added in a future code release.

Obviously having multiple usernames would better, but I would think it would do reasonable job of recording programmes for both of you. Occasionally for work purposes I have to record stuff that I wouldn't normally watch. The TiVo still records Suggestions I would like as well as ones I wouldn't.
Unless you start cancelling each others thumb-ratings...
