I'd say a copy of the letter of redundancy from the customers employer would be fine. Alternatively a letter from the Citizens Advice Bureau with a copy of the letter of redundancy which verifies the authenticity of the customers claim.

Re: Would I be allowed to take the TV package out
It's a real shame but sadly companies are going to have to deal with many more cases of financial difficulties in future.
Let's hope VM are as understanding as their many creditors have been with them over the years and show some flexibility.

Somehow I don't see how the two are comparable
Unless of course it was an excuse to have a sly dig at Virgin Media.

Virginmedia will be as accommodating as any other company in similar circumstances.
The first thing the OP should do is get a copy of any letter from his employer stating that he is being made redundant.
In the meantime tomorrow I would call in on 150 and choose the option "Thinking of leaving us" as that is Customer Relations and explain to them what has happened and see what kind of agreement you can get from them, you need to give up the Sports package and HD, 2nd box and unlimited calls to lower any monthly outlay.
Do not worry as they will do their best to help you with this issue, please let us know how you got on.

How much is the early disconnection fee and is this the same for all products ?

...but surely easy to fake - I have a GIF of my employers logo and could quite easily mock up the rest.

Easier to just not let anyone out of contract

Re: Would I be allowed to take the TV package out
I can't help thinking that more VM customers are likely not to upgrade or go for a new contract if they think there is a chance of them being made redundant and then having to pay out large sums to downgrade or leave.
Out of interest how do Sky deal with the same situation?
