Another very good reminder of why we have kept up with this tradition

Re: 2 minutes silence & unknown soldier

My Great Grandfather fell at the second battle of Ypres, and his body was never recovered, but my mother has told us that his wife liked to believe that it was him buried in West Minster Abbey, no doubt along with countless other grieving people all over the Commonwealth who believed the same.

Re: 2 minutes silence & unknown soldier

Just been to the remembrance parade at Bridge Foot in Warrington. It looked a good turn out this year.

It was sad to hear the names of five young men from Warrington who are to be added to the list of those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

I've never thought to do that before, I just stayed silent for 2 mins and turned off the radio (turning off the radio is a bit redundant since the radio also observe the silence). Admittedly I have only driven once during all the silences.

Despite the downpour it was a good turnout for our local service though the old veterans have dwindled in number, sadly.A few serving servicemen turned up though.Special mention of the local territorial lad who passed recently..

The nicest touch was the poems that the children from the local Juniors had written which they read for us.Some thoughtful contributions from them.Quite powerful for their age.

Apart from the count I guess that's it until next year.As that will be 11/11/11 I guess they will make it a really special one.
