On a call we use the link I posted and it is expected to be used for our diagnostics by our 2nd line due to it being more stable and accurate, and if we say that another site was used we are told to check again using that site to see if what they can see on the uBR is the same as what the customer is getting.

Re: Speed test is inaccurate

The download speed on my 10 meg broadband is very inconsistent and I get impossibly fast results sometimes when I check it:

speedtest.bbmax.co.uk test results

I installed a new modem yesterday and although it appears to have made some improvement, I occasionally struggle to open web pages and pictures can sometimes appear almost line by line instead of instantly.

Anyone else ever had this problem?

Re: Speed tester

I personally wouldn't trust the Maidenhead speedtest.net server. I live less than 2 miles from the server yet it only ever measures my connection as 10Mbit/s, half the rate at which it is actually running (I have a 20Mbit/s connection.)

Re: Speed tester

I get that issue with speedtest.net you can use 3 different servers and get 3 very different results try this website www.fuller.zen.co.uk/test it's quite safe use the 100 meg file either one will do and check the transfer rate

I used Maidenhead because it was the recommended server, but other servers produce similar results:

I even tried another test site and got this:

I think I may have found the reason for the unusual speed test results:

Unrealistic test results obtained by using Google Chrome Browser.

Realistic test results were obtained by using Internet Explorer Browser.

So it looks like I won't be using Google Chrome for speed testing from now on!

I get approximately 1200KB/s (Took around 86 seconds for the 100MB file to download) for Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, which is probably about right for a 10Mb/s connection.

Thanks for the suggestion.
