I set ours up as Hubby gets lost

If you are on Virgin Cable Broadband you need a specific Wireless router for cable (ours was free from Virgin). If you get broadband via a phone line you will need a different Wireless Router.

Seems like you went out a bought one retail so you will need to check what type of connection it will work with. There have been several threads from people having problems with Belkin, which don't seem to be an issue with Netgear.

OK, so you have a wireless router that Virgin supplied?

There is no need to go looking for a wired router, as the Virgin supplied router has wired capability as well.

Re: Help

on on the front of the router is there s blue light that looks like a radio tower?

open you browser and type( where you normally do www.) 192.168.1.1(think this is correct for netgear) a box should open looking a user name and password. Admin for username and password for password(unless you have changed these)

Have a look in wireless settings tell us what you see

Re: Help

I had the WNR2000 and it worked ok

you have not answered any of my questions ,have you tried what I said? I am trying to help and I mean no offence but you need to try to follow instructions

---------- Post added at 14:46 ---------- Previous post was at 14:40 ----------

http://www.upc.nl/pdf/upc_handleidin...ar_wnr2000.pdf follow the instructions on page 16 and 17 upto section 2 page 17

look at page 5 and ensure the modem is plugged into the socket labeled 3 in the picture

Ignore firmware update for now. Tell me what lights are lit up from page 16

Then click wireless settings and tell me what you can see

Re: Help

Scousemouse, no-one is getting annoyed with you... Just that you didn't provide the full details in your initial posts..

A few questions..

Have you reset your wnr2000 to defualt and then rebooted your router and then PC (for that matter if your PC set to aquire an IP address automatically.

If yes then do a START+R ( or click start>>Run) and type CMD

then type
Code:
IPCONFIG /ALL
and cut/paste the result here and that will enable us to see if the router is being connected to or not

Re: Help

Yes promise, have tried everything and no connection to internet, which is why bloke you came round said it was the router, have been using ethernet cable from modum to laptop and x box, just I keep tripping over wires when he has it in his room

Thats why thought would buy new router and power plugs to see if it would work

ok if you got the router off VM you should be able to get it replaced

Just one more thing did you make sure the modem was plugged into the correct port on the router?

Re: Help

Re: Help

Netgears are fine, if the router is defunct then no matter what make it is it simply won't work. But it is a common mistake from a non-techy to assume it's the routers fault. Sending it to Zing will confirm either way and will only take a few days
