Re: What would make you happy...
As most TVs owned in the UK are now HD (at least, according to The Gadget Show), it seems ridiculous that Virgin still only offer a handful of HD channels. There should be serious efforts made to secure *every* HD channel commercially available in the UK, and to get each new one as it comes on stream on day one. Virgin need to think of HD as the standard, with SD as a relic to be replaced as soon as possible.
I'd also like to see some new, modern PVRs deployed. The current V+ box is so out dated I'd be embarassed if I was running Virgin. They need a box with a modern, slick, responsive HD interface, such as Windows Media Centre in Windows 7.

Call me a doom & gloom merchant but to replace everyones STB's will cost a bucket load of money. Then to dispose of the old STB's will cost another bucket load.
I think the more likely outcome would be to replace them as and when they go faulty. Seeing as the Tivo link up has only been announced recently I doubt VM have a confirmed plan yet anyway

Depends. If they decide they need to move everyone to MP4 (which would save shed loads of bandwidth that could then be used for extra HD channels, or, with some adjustments, for broadband internet access), they are going to have to change every STB..

VM have largely stopped announcing things long before they are ready to deploy them. Partly because they don't want to be seen to be advertising something that they can not offer, but mostly, I suspect, because they can't afford to give Sky too much of a heads up on their plans.
They are saying that the Tivo powered NG TV system will start to launch by the end of 2010..

I don't see why it would replace just the V+. Tivo have said it's the first time they've been asked to provide software for boxes with no PVR facility. Admittedly, that could mean VM are considering moving to a system where the box appears to have a built in PVR, but the recording and playback is done by systems at the head end, and streamed to the box.

Re: What would make you happy...
I thought that the Tivo would just be an update as it is software?

It is software. However, VM are also looking at various other technologies, under the guise of their Next Generation TV system.

what a nightmare that would be.They can not keep VOD up all the time in my experience running a system like that would be fraught with problems

Re: What would make you happy...
More non-HD channels (we seem to have been forgotten), a new menu system, better boxes, more worthwhile on-demand content and full series instead of odd episodes on the on-demand service.

Re: What would make you happy...
Nagra 3 rollout on the entire network with few issues would be a bonus. Virgin 1 to have some decent content, and maybe have that channel in HD on Freeview too. IPTV properly trialled, decent upload to go with the download, the usual.
