40" is a pretty big screen for the average room. You'll need to sit 10 feet or more away from it to not see the pixels on the SD channels if you have good eyesight. That's why I asked whether you got the problem on HD channels.
Thanks for the info spiderplant, I,m not convinced either, tonight the TV has been a lot better, getting very little pixelation now.

the BB however still isnt firing on all cylinders, I had a quick blast on cod on my ps3 earlier but turned it off in disgust after about half an hour.

I was getting way too much lag for it to be enjoyable.

Thanks for the heads up on the TV but I,m well aware of the distance to screen required dependant on size of screen, thats why i picked a 40 inch and not something bigger.

I tried watching HD on demand after reading your post but it was unavailable at the time, which speaks volumes dont you agree.

I tried again later on and it worked with no issues, so god knows whats going on.

Re: V+ POWER LEVEL help please

Final Update, in a nutshell I posted on the newsgroups and apart from the FEC error issue that is now resolved, there saying everything is fine with my connection, so thats it, I dont think I can persue the matter any further.

I,m a bit miffed that nothing has been resolved, because again tonight I was connected strait to the modem and still lag lag and more lag. spikes + poor voice chat.

In one game I was selected as host, and I was lagging more than anyone else, its like data is flowing one way ok and not the other, I tried both my ps3 and my xbox and the same behavior on both.

So its looking like the only resolution is to switch isp's, a shame but what can yo do..

I,m not willing to put up with this any more and at the soonest available opportunity I,m off. I know I,m part way into a contract so I,m not sure where I stand from a legal front and will probably have to wait till it expires.

thanks for everyones help

Question Re: V+ POWER LEVEL help please

Hi

I just thought I would post as I have been having the same pixelation problem on my 42" HDTV and this has only happened since the VM engineer increased the power levels as I was having problems with my broadband.

The increase in the power levels hasn't resolved my broadband speed issues and the pixelation on the TV has now made it virtually unbearable to watch anything and don't mention ondemand it is useless everytime someone turns their head the pixels appear.

When I watch a movie on the same TV through my PS3, playing a dvd or bluray, I don't have this problem so have ruled out the TV as the problem.

I was beginning to think I was seeing things till my partner mentioned the other night and then seeing your post. Can increased power levels make this happen?

I suppose it depends on how high your power levels are, why don't you have a look and post on here, if you've not done that already.

I rang retentions and asked how much it will cost to end my contract early instead of waiting till March, and was told £160 so me thinks I,m gonna stay putt till March then move onto pastures new.

In the address bar at the top of your computer (the one your connected to the virgin network on) type, 192.168.100.1 then hit return, if you are prompted for a password and user name use "root" for both, without the speech marks obviously.

this should then show you your modem upstream and downstream power levels, and importantly your SNR in dB. this is the info you want to make a note off and post back on this forum.

if you post them in a fresh thread or in this one if your not sure, I,m sure someone will have a look at the levels and tell you if you need an engineer or not.

If you get stuck just google how to read virgin media modem power levels or something like that and you should be able to find some more info.

hope this helps

ps Never Ever post your modem MAC address on a public forum just incase you didnt know.
