You probably dialled 1123 by mistake, 112 is the same as dialling 999. If you had dialled 1123 the 3 would have been ignored.

Re: Speaking Clock

123 Speaking clock is provided by BT, it is not available on Orange,Hutchison 3G and some virtual networks.

100 - operator services is provided by Cable and Wireless
155 - operator services(International) is provided by Cable and wireless
101,112 and 999 Emergency and non-emergencies are also provided by Cable and Wireless

I also think that Virgin Media Directory services via these numbers:

118180
118190
118120
118770
118878

Are now operated by Cable and Wireless under Virgin Media's name.

Its suprising how Cable and Wireless still seems to linger around in the Cable industry!

That's what you dial to speak to a policeman in Belgium.

Re: Speaking Clock

101 is only available in certain parts of the country, it's been discontinued in the North East due to government funding cuts, but replaced with a regular 0800 number.

You sure you didn't dial 112 by mistake?

101 is currently available in the solent area, well that was the first area to be launched,

The problem is, when people call 101 from a payphone, the payphone company still charges 'the payphone access charge' 8.5p per minute to the goverment whilst the call is free to the caller. This is also the case for 0800 numbers.

101 and the other non-emergency numbers are dealt with BT and Cable and Wireless.

Cable and Wireless provide 112,999,100,101 and 155 services to:

Virgin Media Telewest
Virgin Media NTL
Smallworld
Wight Cable
T-Mobile/Virgin/Fresh/TalkTalk
Thus and Verizon?

Cable and Wireless also provide these services for BT and all other service providers that use the service from BT as a back up just incase BT are unable to offer the operator and emergency services.

Note: Reverse charge calls cannot be made through Cable and Wireless and you would need to use a BT line,BT payphone or a payphone that uses a BT line. Alternatively, you can use 0800-REVERSE on 0800-7383773 if its a BT line that you are calling, you cannot use 0800-REVERSE to call non-BT lines at the moment.
