Re: TV cheaper with Virgin than Sky?

Five catchup has/is launching on BT vision, so maybe Five would have a catch up service on virgin media in the next 2 or 3 years.

Glad you're happy with the service Pia, hope the good feelings don't rub off too quickly!

I declined the offer and said i wanted to still cancel but she told me to go and think about it as i didn't seem to have made my mind up

Before this though, i had already arranged for VM TV to be installed @ £30, costing around £13 per month for the Sky equivalent of £22 per month.

I forgot to call Sky back, to give my 30 days notice and today the VM installer turned up to install my cable TV.... Now i have both services and my plan to save money hasn't worked at all because i'm going to have to pay Sky for this next month that i'm not even using it

I'm thinking about cancelling my direct debit for Sky and writing a letter to say i wanted to cancel ASAP and was guilted out of it so can i please have it disconnected as of now... and hope to get away with paying them for the 30 day notice period!

As for the Virgin TV, i am VERY pleasantly surprised, after using it for the last few hours it appears to beat Sky hands down features-wise.
No Pia that would affect your credit rating so don't try it.

Right Pia you need to work out your 'script' beforehand and just keep repeating it until they take NO for an answer...just like you would with your son.So imagine that the person on the other end of the line is 12 years old and you are mum and you are being an adult and making an adult choice.Be assertive not aggressive, don't lose your temper but refuse to consider any options or choices offered.Be quite clear you hold them responsible for you having to pay out for an extra month and that it was a large part of why you are leaving at this particular point.

Now go get them tiger....

Re: TV cheaper with Virgin than Sky?

agree with Maggy's theory. I had a major issue with them, where they would not accept my word to cancel an account (I pay the bill, am authorised on the account, can downgrade the account etc) - but point blank refused, as my ex could not cancel (not in contact) and in her name.

Eventually they seem to have agreed, as out of the blue came a letter from them advising cancellation at the date I had already agreed to (1 month after my initial contact with them) - and advising I could return at any time (the chances are less than ho hope!!).

You will seem like you are hitting your head against a brick wall - but with me it did come down eventually.

Re: TV cheaper with Virgin than Sky?

Hi Maggyj, do yourself a favour, if the problem is with Sky, call them and explain the situation to them, and l can assure you, if you want to stay with VM, and NOT with Sky, speak to Sky, and l am certain, they will cancel the card, there amd then, as the equipment is yours (l assume you bought the equipment) and you wil, still have freesat from Sky, l have Sky, and they are not as bad as people say, l downgraded Sky, and they accepted my decision, They do, do special deals for customers, that come from VM.

I am not trying to sell Sky, but they are much better at cs than VM.

Whatever, you do, don't stop making payments, AS you will be placed on the credit file, ITS AUTOMATIC.

After over a year now with Sky+ I have to agree.

I was able to get a channel mix from Sky that was much more suited to my needs than I could with VM. It also worked out considerably cheaper for me too.

As my reception of VM DTV was atrociously bad, Sky, so far, for me, has been a win, win solution.

I live in hopes that it will continue in the same way.

Just to show we can all disagree - swapped from Sky to VM a few months ago, and would never go back. iplayer, additional capacity on V+ box, able to record 2 and watch another, free videos (XL), box owned by Virgin, so if it fails in 4 years time - then just get a free replacement (as opposed to buying a new one).

Don't get me wrong, there are a number of things I would prefer on Sky - HD (pathetic on VM), ability to use TV Eyes (and control box from another location), ability to use RF output (using HDMI) so able to split the output around the house, but overall VM over Sky anyday. And it is a lot cheaper for me, with more channels (Setanta sports free).
