Or a logical way of allowing people to transfer from one flight to another with a minimum of fuss and complexity international > international, international > EU (I know it is international but it is different) or international > domestic.
The US approach of making everyone clear immigration even if they are departing immediately is equally flawed and illogical IMHO.
Funny that they have been trumpeting this technology for months but only now are people noticing.
Mickey Mouse has my fingerprint. It is the only way I can get a multiday pass to his house. I am probably more concerned with MM having my fingerprint on file until my never expires pass is used up than BAA having it for 24 hours. I imagine that they purge this data each night as the airport shuts down from midnight - 5am (though on days of major delays I guess the purge will have to be deferred).

Re: Fingerprints At Airports
l do start some good topics, don't l, there is another one coming very soon, but l do agree with TheNorm, don't forget that our safety, is paramount, where ever we go, and l must confess, that when l went to USA, last year, l had to go through several checkpoints, before l was actually allowed to go to departures, in fact the only problem, that my family had, was when we got to Sandford Airport, we were told by the authorities offical, that if our credentials, were not in order, and we had to have our photo taken BEFORE the desk, or the paperwork was NOT filled in properly, we would not be allowed into America, and l honestly don't think that we have that here - or do we.

It's a bit of a joke isn't it? Post 9/11 Airport design involves 'maximising the shopping experience', so we'll take your finger prints to 'enhance security'. If the designers had pulled their bloody finger out there'd be no need to.

Re: Fingerprints At Airports
So what if domestic passengers share a departure lounge with the international transfers lounge? That's how it works at Gatwick, both terminals, and Manchester T1 and T3 and nobody's ever asked for my fingerprints there.
In fact, they don't even do the iris recognition thing at Manchester.

The worry is that your cousin (who looks very similar to you) from another country could arrive in Britain as a transfer passenger, swap passports and tickets with you in the lounge, then travel on to a British destination (pretending to be you), while you carried on to another international destination (pretending to be him). You would then do the reverse to get back to your respective countries.
At the moment, the only way to stop this is to rely on a visual comparison of your face and passport photo. A fingerprint check would add another layer of security.
