Re: Router problem trying to reach 20Mb speeds?

To get your 20MB or so m8 you will need to hard wire the router to your pc.
You will be pushed trying to get past 9-10 mb when wireless, on any router that is.

As far as your download speeds are concerned check your ip then go into your router then into firewall then DMZ settings.

Enter the last of your ip in the box and apply it.

This will set your computer outside the NAT settings and allow you to download at your max.

As i mentioned set your comp outside the NAT firewall setting and see if that helps any.

Let us know how you get on.

When I get to the stage were I have to enter the last 3 digits in the box, the number that is already there with the space to enter a number, there is only one digit left of my ip and not three. Do I just enter the one number?

Also there is in total 3 computers connected to the router, will doing this also make them computers work at full speed through the router or will i have to do something different.

Sorry i realise you said last and not last three, im not with it today. Ill give it a go now.

Re: Router problem trying to reach 20Mb speeds?

You can only set 1 comp outside the NAT at a time.
And yes just the last digit of your ip is required.
Go into start then in the run menue type cmd.
When you get the black dos screen type "ipconfig".

Look at the ipv4 address and you will see your local ip as assigned by your router.

If all comps are running each will have a different last digit, check each by using cmd ipconfig and change as you please although remember only 1 comp or 1 ip can be placed outside the NAT at any 1 time.

Re: Router problem trying to reach 20Mb speeds?

Well it seems to of gone back up to about 10Mb but stil not getting anything over 10Mb.

Re: Router problem trying to reach 20Mb speeds?

If you are able or have a long enough cable, bypass your router and connect directly from modem to pc.
Check to see if you get full speed doing that and then we can take it from there.

---------- Post added at 17:48 ---------- Previous post was at 17:44 ----------

Do a cable forum speed test when the router is bypassed and note the result or go to www.thinkbroadband.com and do a test there, we need to see that you are getting more that 10mb from your isp.

---------- Post added at 18:06 ---------- Previous post was at 17:48 ----------

In fact go to this link and take the very last file and download it, the one at
1348M.
leave it running for a couple of minutes and report back what your download speed it ie KB/sec

---------- Post added at 18:06 ---------- Previous post was at 18:06 ----------

LOL here is the link.

http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/demos/

---------- Post added at 18:08 ---------- Previous post was at 18:06 ----------

Remember to do this without the router to establish what you are getting from your isp.

Downloading at 750KB/s going down to 250KB/s for some strange reason, from

http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/

Sorry for the delay. As you can see though from the speed test on here, as soon as I connect straight through to the modem the speeds do go up, now if i connect to the router, i will never get over 10Mb.

From the link you gave me I downloaded for a few minutes from a file that was 1400M and got 320KB/s.

All though the results are muddled I can confirm that I have never had over 10Mb through the router were as I have with the modem.

Restarted modem and getting 1.01MB/s on the same file.

Modem config page confirms Im on 20Mb.

Just spoke to my dad and his laptop downstairs connected to the router can get up to 14Mbps when doing a speed test from this site. normally 10 and 11's and most the time averaging around 9Mbps because of the first or last test it does out of the 4 being slow.

Re: Router problem trying to reach 20Mb speeds?

shawty, I'm having a similar problem. Connected to modem directly and I'm nearing the 20Mb, but through router I never get above 10Mb. Thinking its a problem with the router. Can anyone tell me a router that can deliver the 20Mb?

Re: Router problem trying to reach 20Mb speeds?

shawty i am currently using the same router as you and don't get restricted when wired. Only get restricted when wireless.

I have just wired my laptop to the router and it is restricted to no more than 10mb. Yip even with the wire.

I am starting to think that this may be a network card problem.

Now i have the same prob but only with the laptop.

Try sticking in another network card and see if it makes any difference,
failing that not quite sure.

Re: Router problem trying to reach 20Mb speeds?

Having been busy and have got a broken wrist i just couldnt be bothered with sorting stuff out lol.

Im going to do the stuff Belkin told me to do soon but just need to ask a question.

Ive got this network card.

Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet

When i look on EVEREST Home Edition, it shows the connection speed as *10Mbps.*

*Now is this the reason why im not seeing anything over 10Mbps when im on a 20Mbps connection and if so how do i change it?*

*Edit -

Uninstalled it, restarted computer, installed autimatcaly, looked on EVEREST and now it is showing 100Mbps, so that fixed that as it was showing 10Mbps but the problem still continues regardless.*

So is the network card good for 20Mbps?

Re: Router problem trying to reach 20Mb speeds?

I have the same problem of only 10mbit through the router (SMV7004VBR), through just the modem (NTL200), approx 17 to 18.
Left a post on another part of the forum and a kind gent pointed me to a website that stated that my WAN port on the router was only rated at 10 base T and not10/100 base T as in the instruction manual.
After 3 very confusing calls to SMC (India me thinks), they told me that it was indeed only rated at 10. So I am off to get me a Linksys WRT54GS, although I will only be using the wired side of it, patrners son can use his laptop

Yes, it will handle 100Mbps. Cat5e will handle 1Gbps. Cat6 will handle, well, more than 1Gbps.
