Try putting your Samsung box on 4 Blocks of wood, also put a mirror on your Plasma TV, this worked for me.

Can you offer any scientific reason why that would work?

don't know if this is me being daft but wouldn't the fact it wont work with tv ( of what ever sort ) on or as some have said having a normal household light on stops the remote and or receiver working make it not fit for purpose

and i cant see why you should have to set the brightness of you tvto suit remote rasther than for yourself

By FCC Rules (Which I assume still count over here, not sure) The Device in question must not give out any harmful interference-define harmful - and it must accept any interference received.

Re: Quite the most remarkable thing!!!

Have had similar problems, ie weird IR responses with various different kit.
Best one was at previous house, Pace di4000-t and Sanyo crt TV. Combination of positioning, lighting and too much ciggy smoke

errr
the display on the front of the STB will inform you if it is changing channels,
etc 101/102/103.
You do not need tv on to see if STB responding.

There was a marked improvement with one empty Coco Pops box placed below and an empty (blue) Kleenex box above. I'm fresh out of mirrors at the moment but, suffering a flashback to Take Hart, I decided to place a 1.83m strip of 78cmTurkey foil directly below the plasma screen and Hey Presto!! I'm now receiving still images from the Hubble Telescope accompanied by an instrumental pan pipe interpretation of "Green" by Scritti Politti. I am delighted!! Hooray for Virgin Media (and Roxyfella).

This sounds like a fantastic idea. Is it like the TV/Phone debundling? Does this mean I can now get an stb without having to have a TV?

If so that's great!! I've never really understood the need for a TV other than to check if the numerical display on the front of my stb was changing.

Re: Quite the most remarkable thing!!!

and people wonder why the suicide rate is so high in tech support!
salesmen pushing plasmas while they are still clearly no match for the good old crt!
do you know why we all need to turn our heating down.. and turn of lights in rooms when we leave them?
it's because of all those poorly designedplasma TV's causing global warming lol!!

Saying that the remotes for Ntls STBs have always played up with most things. Some don't work with most IR senders, XP Media Centre and now TVs!!

the old pace IR was designed with multi user interactivity in mind (with hindsight a bit of a mistake really) and that did play havoc with those cheap and nasty IR extenders (mind you even under ideal conditions mose of them where more annoying than usefull )
did MCE work with anything?
does not work reliably with SKY
does not work reliably with SKY+
does not work reliably with most digi terestrial boxes!
wont record 2 channels properly even with top spec hardware and 2 tuners!!
as to plasma TV's..
lets just not go there!!
I repair them (amongs other things) for a living
and let me just say.. it will be a cold day in hell before I have one!
if you want cheap reliable TV with good picture quality go for CRT
if you want something to hang on the wall.. buy a painting lol!
oh and if you want something to heat your living room a gas fire is more economical than a gas plasma display!!

Re: Quite the most remarkable thing!!!

It would appear that my plasma TV has developed thermo nuclear long range tactical strike death ray capabilities.

One week on and my promised indestructible remote has not yet appeared.
