Any ideas about what these Promotions could be?
I'd think that it can't be anything big because the Films have the Royalties and such to be paid for.

I think they could offer a half decent deal, i mean when you think of the cash they are now saving from Sky One and what they were prpared to pay for it, it's not like it's going to cost them, they will prolly still walk away with spare cash even after a movie promotion.

The people who are likely to be switchers look at the current day not 1,2,3 months or years in the future.

I understand what you are saying but all i think this does is go to prove further that Virgin did want the channels and it wasn't them who engineered it. They were planning on having the Sky channels and wern't looking to offer any other deals, you could say they should have had a backup plan, but the people they pay at that level aren't cheap and would have been working on this deal and the other numerous ones they have signed recently. I don't really think they have been scratching their behinds!

I have spent many a time in negotiations and any good negotiator will say to prepare for every possibility. I dd not say they were scratching their behinds but they were caught with their trousers down and their paid big bucks for that not to be the case
I think any reasonable person (Including most posters on this forum) saw where we are today coming yet it appears oblivious to VM management.
VM played a bluff (and maybe sky too) and sky called it. the question now is who has the best hand at showdown. remember poker is usually won by the player with the most chips not the best hands

Pontoon!! (ahem, sorry got carried away)
Seriously though i don't disagree, just i think Virgin is playing a long term game. Within a couple of weeks they will be starting from their worst possible position, virtually everyone who is gong to leave will have left and this is where the fun and games will start. They are now puting themselves in direct competition in 50% of the country and once they produce a box for the other half over IP, they will have access to the whole Country (i know this isn't an ideal solution, but it still gives them access to offer their TV and very basic broadband), they will spend the next year building up everything they can prior to launch and then we will see how many new people they sign up with access to the other half of the Country. I don't think it's inconceivable that they could get somewhere within a couple of mil of Sky's customer base in the next 3 years (caveat being they release the box up to or within the next year).
With the movies i think people should just take advantage of any deal they receive, it's just a filler till they think they have the content they want to compete. Up until now Virgin haven't really fought hard for any content, but Sky will have a fight now to get every show they want. Prices will have to go up at Sky to cover everything if they are going to spend a mil per episode on everything!

Re: [Confirmed]The Virgin Media Movie Promotion
Eitherway, Sir Rich has signed up for at least 10 years... (it is a 20 year contract, but a 10 year 'get out' clause) so for the next 10 years of Endless amounts of cash...
It takes me back to WCW wrestling and the WWE (WWF back then) and because WCW had endless amounts of $$$ from Ted Turner, they beat their competition for nearly 2 years... almost making the competition extinct in the process... (eliminate the fact that WCW was bought by WWE in 2001)
The future is bright... the future is Virgin.

Have you tried pressing the Red Button when you are on Virgin Central?
You are not supposed to what what they are showing on the channel itself, it is a VOD channel, you pick what you want to watch.
