As a rule the E6xxx CPUs, being newer, will be better at most things, than their predecessors. As the CPU and motherboard are at the heart of any PC it makes sense to get the best possible. Certainly the future trend of computing seems to be moving towards multicore, and while regular software may not yet fully ustilse that, within the lifetime of any PC bought now, it will. Thus the E6000 over an older design CPU will provide future proofing.

However the OP also needs to consider the other aspects of the PC. How much RAM is there. 512MB is an absolute minimum, but a better spec has to be 1GB. How many slots are there on the motherboard? Could more RAM be added without discarding some of that already supplied?

Hard disk, how much space do you currently use? The bigger HD may be important now, but if not, it's relatively easy to add additional HD's later.

That leaves the graphics. If the PC is used for gaming or other graphically intensive purposes then you want a good card. Make sure the motherboard accepts PCI-e not AGP cards - the latter is also older technolgy. As graphics are relatively costly, you want to have something that could last a while. You do not want to be restricted by onboard graphics.

where does it say it only has 256 meg of ram? it says it has a 256 meg graphics card it doesnt say what ram is in either machine

The E6300 is by far the better chip to have, aint no 2 ways about it, and your more than likely to get 1gb of DDRII with that CPU.

Just google for comparisons between the D945 & the E6300 & you will come across stuff like this LINKY

If it were me I'd take #2 nuff said

WOW,

did'nt mean to start a war about this. As for the amount of ram each machine has it's 1GB. As for what the machine will be used for will be mainly video editing and converting, NOT MSN as stated by JRHNEWARK and some gaming for my kid's.
I think I'll go for the second Pc as it makes sense to get the newer PC with some future proofing built in.
