You need to find out the make and model of your motherboard. The manufacturer should have a program for updating the Bios. It may be possible to do this from Windows (I know newer Asus boards support this), but you will probably need a boot disk to run the program from.
If you post the make and model of your motherboard here, I'll try and find their site for you.

Re: Graphic Card Problem?
It won't update the bios by removing the battery You need to go to the manufacturers website and download a tool and the new bios.
What motherboard is it and do you feel competent flashing the BIOS??

Re: Graphic Card Problem?
I had a geforce nvidia graphics card once with 128mb on board ram on it. I loved the card. It had a good home. It blew up on me and Geforce doens't have a good returns policy. The card was six months old so it was pretty new. I have now reinstalled my old ATI 128mb rage in the machine and so far its ok.
I go thoruhg graphics cards very quickly. I wouldn NEVER ever buy geforce nvidia ever again.

Re: Graphic Card Problem?
GA7DX is the model number of the motherboard, i believe i could get the bios flash thing done as long as i have the sufficient instrcution!
in terms of graphic card, it says WinFast Titanium on the back, 64mb, with 3 outputs inc DVI and TV out, the GPU has a fan on it!
Afther a quick google image search i found this picture identical to mine:
Leadtek WinFast Titanium TH is the modle number on the page! i mean it looks good...

Re: Graphic Card Problem?
I would borrow your friends graphics card and use the @Bios(if supported) feature so the flash can be done in windows, the program automates it and saves using all the dos commands
The graphics was very good in its day lets hope its still working

Re: Graphic Card Problem?
It could be that one particular refresh rate is not able to be displayed on your card. XP during setup will try to optimize your card. Windows ME does not do this so and may use 60hz refresh rate for example.
Can you start XP in safe mode? You could then set the refresh rate to something that worked...
If this is the case thought you will need a new card eventually....

Re: Graphic Card Problem?
just thought i might give you guys some update:
i have taken all other stuff off but the graphic card and tried it - magic, worked just fine. but the flame only lasted for few minutes then it auto restart!
then i left it on the coffee table trying to get all the cards back on and stuff, but a mate called hence i went out for a beer. the flat was flooded when i got back - the flat above me had a bursted pipe...
hopefully i shall get a new computer from them...
