Don't forget to defrag your pagefile and registry hives too.

Re: About speeding up your computer and using defrag

I've kept the pagefile in a separate partition on my 2nd drive (first partition on drive - i.e. quicker) so it cant clog up the main drive. Every month or so, I disable the pagefile, reboot, format the drive (its only 1Gb) and then re-enable the pagefile and reboot again.

Seems to work well for me. I remember reading on another forum to disable the pagefile and reboot before defragging a one drive computer anyway... stops those damn greenies on the defrag display from getting in the way Disabling hibernate mode is a good idea too as that is another greenie

Re: About speeding up your computer and using defrag

Used to do mine about once a month but dont even do that now. Dont really see the point to be honest, on a modern machine with a decent hard drive the performance gains are minimal, stability is unrelated and it takes too long for the small amount of performance gained. It also causes premature wear on the disk and on average halves its opperational lifetime.

This may well be aided by the fact that drives wich fragment quickest are windows drives dealing with p2p downloads etc. My windows drive is pureley for My OS, games and utilities. Everything else is stored on a sepperate drive wich rareley needs defraging either.

Is it really? I thought that was only the page file that was the 2 greenies?

If your page file is static ie same size min and max then it will not fragment anyway,I always run my static page file on a non o/s hard drive also
