Hang on..this is not something to laugh about is it?If people playing with or using air guns can kill a child then we have to at least discuss the issue of whether there should be some stricter guidlines to their sale and use?
I'm a parent myself and I feel that this deserve a little more discussion and little less frivolity..

You do have a point - I'm in a flippant phase at the mo. I think you are right about stricter regulation. No point in banning them but it would be good to keep these weapons out of the hands of the kids (and irate teachers wound up by local youth!) who seem to think they're a toy on a par with a spud gun.

The list of things that "can be dangerous" or "could kill" is endless. Banning or regulting won't stop that; sensible education will do much more to ease it.
I recall two incidents from my school days: in one, one child in a fit of anger lashed out at another with a pencil and stabbed him in the head. Could have been very serious. In another, a boy was trying to remove a bicycle tyre. Most kids used the handles of spoons, but he used a fork and guess what? Yep, got it in the eye, nearly lost it but ended up partially blinded.
Now, do we ban forks and pencils, or just regulate them? Or do we just educate kids a little better, and take the responsibility as adults?

We need to do more than educate we need to have better parenting. If children are given or own an air gun then parents MUST take responsibility to ensure that their child behaves responsibly. However not every parent gives a t*ss so because of the feckless few I guess we need to do more than educate....

That's a sad truth about too many of today's parents. Maybe the answer lies in punishing parents heavily for the kids' misdemeanours, instead of too often putting it down to "boisterous" kids?

Your right Incognitas. Sorry
Seriously ... Banning projectile tools from public unlicenced consumption would lower injuries resulting from them. We would have to look at the benefits of such a ban related to any resulting handicaps to a typical citizens life. I feel that such a ban would not impede the lifes of most people who own such a projectile tool. I would not favour a ban though, I think that is an overreaction. Anyone who wants one can apply for a licence. Similarly with fireworks, I think they should be harder to obtain, but not denied.
Emotionally speaking though ... jesus'h'christ, not another damn ban !!!
So in conclusion ... a licensing requirement for airguns is worth further consideration.
