Sounds more like that guy has an internet addiction or something. I personally use the internet a lot but only as a filler or time waster when I have nothing to do, it certainly doesnt stop me doing something more constructive when the need arises. There have actually been several things I would have had trouble doing such as repairs on the car if it wasnt for my wireless BB.
Admittedly, as I have a family so can't go out party-ing every night like I used to using the net is preferable to watching TV. You end up shouting at the telly, but it doesn't fight back, whereas if you shout at someone in IRC or on a forum, you're usually in for a good time.
