Good idea, Chris.

My story's not quite so clear-cut... Personally, I signed-up with them in October 2003 when I moved back to the UK. I initially had tv, phone and bb, but after a catalogue of errors (all in the billing/accounts dept - nothing to do with the technical aspect) I've now switched to Sky (it's bloomin' fantastic!), and BT are sorting out my phone line. However, I'm keeping BB for a while, as it's the fastest I can get in my area. Still getting problems with ntl's billing, however

Re: how long have you been with ntl

97 or 8 when Diamond came to our area. For some reason they chose to divert the cable to our front lawn and dug up our front drive and lawn outside the house so we were going to using them after all that.

A bit OT but what does the box do in front (small trapezium sized one with a manhole cover in front?)

Re: how long have you been with ntl

Think it was around 1996 when we got CableTel installed (Phone & Analogue TV). Soon thereafter, they were taken over by NTL. Got dial-up internet off them too shortly after the take-over.

"Upgraded" to digital around 1999/2000 and availed of a Broadband offer that was ongoing (probably around 2003).

We're still with NTL now - the total package contains:

3 Digiboxes (including Main STB) on Family Pack.
Telephone Service.
750K ? Broadband.

There has been much debate in the household recently whether to leave NTL for Sky. I am off the opinion that (from what I hear from friends) Sky's Customer Service is attrocious and waiting times on phones are even worse than NTL. I would be inclined to remain with NTL due to their all inclusive packages. (Sky doesnt do Telephones or Broadband!!)

Re: how long have you been with ntl

97 when it was Diamond Cable, had the TV and phone, the TV was cheaper than sky plus it was faster, you could also have a box upstairs when SKY couldn't do one, sadly NTL have fallen behind SKY, I now have SKY TV, NTL phone and 1.5meg BB.

Haven't had any problems getting through to Sky customer service - much, much, much quicker than any call I've had with NTL. You're right that Sky don't do a package, as such, but they have teamed-up with BT to offer a joint package. The fact of having 3 separate providers can be a disadvantage, ie 3 different bills, or an advantage, ie less chance of all 3 services going belly-up at once.

Re: how long have you been with ntl

Got NTL analogue + phone in 2000 while living in Southampton. Phone and (generous) TV base pack for £9.77pm -- how things have changed!

Got NTL digital in 2001 in Poole. Base pack about £17pm, with less channels than I used to have on analogue. Found out that half the NTL network got 24/7 free dial-up, whereas we ex-CWC people were left having to pay exorbitant ISP fees. Joined Digitalspy and NTHW.com in November 2001 after the first attempt to roll out CR3 crashed our STB (and, it turned out, every other one in the entire franchise!), and been on the forums ever since. Was a triallist for broadband when in launched in Poole in August 2002. And I think that's about the last time something changed...

Isn't that interesting?

Re: how long have you been with ntl

My parents used to have analogue ntl CATV (back when it was "Cambridge Cable"), but ditched it for Sky.

I had ntl broadband at their house, for about a year or so 'till I moved out.

I've had ntl phone & BB at my current house for 3 1/2 years.

Re: how long have you been with ntl

I got NTL (well it was Cable and Wireless at the time) in late 1998, had Telewest (which was United Arstists when we signed up) at previous address in London since 94/95.

Getting Sky installed this Saturday (all because they had to cap the broadband )

Re: how long have you been with ntl

I've had NTL since they installed it in our area in Harlow about five years + ago, back when it was called 'Anglia Cable' it was then taken over by its parent company 'Cambridge Cable' and then bought out by NTL, can't remember dates. got the 512Kb service at the same time we got digital about 2 years ago, now got 1.5Mb and looking forward to 3Mb

Re: how long have you been with ntl

We've had ntl since 1996 from the days of analogue cable provided by the then Bell Cablemedia with the old Jerrold boxes -(why can't they get the digiboxes to be as small as they were?) - merging to form Cable and Wireless....

Switched to CWC Digital around early 2000, with early Mk1 Pace 1000's and now take tripleplay service of DTV/Internet/Telephone from present ntl:, with combination of Pace 2000 and Samsung 2100c. Realised as writing this that we've been with ntl: for almost a decade now - and with nil problems till the Pace 1000 running broadband died last year!!

It does make me wonder though, why, - with the number of longstanding customers indicated by the poll results and posts - ntl don't have some sort of loyalty scheme or rewards structure for those who have been on the network for a long time?
