DOCSIS is quicker? Hmm.... Here's one for BBKing, then...

Presumably the Samsungs in original areas are using no-bia.cm -- which is 256/128, isn't it? Yet I remember reading that CR3 enabled the DAVIC modems to go to something like 3Mbit.

So how come Docsis seems faster?

It may be nothing to do with DAVIC/DOCSIS. It may just be that the Samsung has a faster CPU than the low end Paces...

The Samsung has pretty much the same internals as the 4010 in Langley areas, with the exception of the DAVIC-capable modem.

When using Interactive (that is, the Walled Garden), the bottleneck is usually load times rather than page rendering speed.

256/192, I believe. I did a lot of tests of the effect on interactive speed of changing the CM file speed many moons ago and the result was that there was no noticeable difference once the downstream speed got above 256, most of the latency was in transmission from the end server and display code on the box. The graphs were a remarkably interesting shape.

Samsungs are faster because the box is faster (2 cpus to 1) and UBRs are better than Intersects, fundamentally. The code version is obviously different too, which may or may not have an effect. The end servers are the same in Langley areas for both DAVIC and Langley Samsungs (which took some sorting out, I can tell you, since of course all existing DOCSIS boxes wanted to talk to Bromley servers). And nowadays the latency in the IP routing is the same for practically all STBs, so that's not a factor.
