Re: Firefox Extensions
Greetings Gentlefolk.
Firefox Extensions - I canââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t download any of them.
I have tried the extensions page, a mirror site, and s1lv3rââ‚Ãâ €šÂ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s site. I can
access all the sites Home page etc, but as soon as I hit the download button - nothing, zilch, zero, the hamster dies and the wheel stops turning.
I have tried with Firefox and IE6 with the same results.
I canââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t see that it is my settings because I have happily downloaded and installed a load of updates to other applications over the last couple of days, but I have done the usual cache purge, proxy dance etc., with no result. I have previously downloaded ( but later removed) a couple of extensions so it has worked!
In IE6 I get error on page in the status bar, and in Firefox (void)Javescript installer
Any and all suggestions gratefully received, because I am completely comfumbulated.
I have XP Pro firewall, AVG7, ADAware Spybot, spyware blaster and all permissions set (as far as I know ) to allow the download.
Bookmarks and Favourites.
Slightly different question. One of the things I miss with FF is a shortcut on the desktop to Bookmarks. Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢ve got one for favourites for IE and use it all the time.
I was looking at Favourites convertor export which would seem to do what I want (if I erver get to dowload) but the reviews range from abysmal to terrible with only a few votes for. Has anybody tried it, or any similar extension?
Thank you for your attention, and if anyone can sort it for me I promise to think of you at Christmas. (wonâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t do anything, just think of you)
TIA Joe.

Re: Firefox Extensions
so you have tried:
clicking tools then click themes/extensions whichever it is you want.
in this box at the very bottom right you will have a link Get more extension/themes (depending on which you clicked).
This should take you to a page for downloads. click whichever ext/themes you wish. then click the inistall button.
Now if you have FF1.0 there may be a sort of tab like thing that appears on the website, (at the top) which may say you cannot download/it is not trusted, just allow to download from the site.
if this does not work, the best thing to do would be to delete the firefox program, and its folder, (after you have downloaded a new copy) and then re-install it, you may have picked up a bug with a certain extension/theme.
you don't/wont get rid of themes or extensions, but I would write down what I had and get all of them fresh.
I have had lots of probs with Adblock, so I no longer have that extension and now my FF works like a dream.
EDIT: go to tools - options - Web Features and click on Allow web sites to install software make sure it is ticked.
I hope this helps.
ik
p.s. to thank people you should just rep them, not think about them, it will make their christmas even more merrier.

Thanks. I did all that - themes work OK, but extensions do nothing at all
Looks like reinstall will be the only option.

Re: Firefox Extensions
if you uninstall firefox and its folder your extensions and themes are not affected, because these are found in you documents and settings folder (if you have windows xp that is), and the fresh copy will find these ok, you may have to import though.
if this does nothing to your problem, try uninstalling and re-installing your themse and extensions, one at a time to find out which one may be affecting your firefox.

Re: Firefox Extensions
Found this on MozillaZine. (The link for it is there)
Not really an extension, it lets you create a backup of all your profiles for Firefox, Mozilla and Thunderbird.

Re: Firefox Extensions
This isn't an extension but a good tip I found. If there's a single url in the address bar drop down menu that u want to get rid of without clearing the history or looking for the entry, just highlight it and press shift-del.
Handy for getting rid of misspelled entries

Re: Firefox Extensions
Following on from what Opera did a few years ago to MSN, Firefox and Thunderbird gets it's own bork bork bork!
In Thunderbird, it turns all the junk mail into bork and in firefox, in View on the toolbar, you can change the text to bork
I don't know if the extension from Mozilla Update can work in FF, but you can get it via the author's homepage.

Re: Firefox Extensions
Im surprised nobody is using Flashblock, its a great little addon to your browser that prevents Flash applications from starting or loading until you let them
So all those frikkin annoying Flash adverts don't even get a chance to start.
Instead of the flash starting you just get a play button centered where the flash app should be - if you then click on it the flash will start - otherwise it wont.
I use it a lot and its great.
You can get it here - http://flashblock.mozdev.org/

Just make sure you are blocking the right content.
e.g. http://*.ads.adserver.com/* and not just http://img654.ads.adserver.com/banners/someimage.jpg

Re: Firefox Extensions
You can dowload my adblock filter list from here (right click -> save as), it will block pretty much all the ads you will come accross and save you a lot of hassle. Just goto Tools -> adblock -> preferences then click on Adblock options and select import filters - then load my file.
That should do it.
