Re: Which web browser should I opt for?
I've used Firefox(Firebird as it used to be) for a year now and no problems. If you do a search of the forum, there are loads of threads on this subject.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?
i'm thinking along the same lines as this. I was going to try mozilla and that seems to be one of the best as far as i can tell.. I guess it's just a matter of installing them and testing them out.. stick with the one you like the best.

I switched on tabbed browsing only recently on my Safari browser at home, and now I wonder how I managed without it. It is so much less cluttered. When I come to work and have to wrestle with IE again it just seems like a big step backwards.

That's exactly how I feel. I miss it, like now, when I'm at work. I've gotten so used to using the tabbed browsing at home.

But overall, IE has attracted only 36% of the votes (only a little better than 1 in 3 voters support it). That's hardly a ringing endorsement and, frankly, I think it supports your instinct to ditch IE and try something better.
If you do that, I predict that at the end of the first poll you will carry IE and Mozilla into 'round 2' and at the end of that, Mozilla will win.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion.
Mozilla currently seems most popular, but can I trust this with any debit card payments over the net?

All browsers use the same protocols for sending and receiving data, AFAIK. There's no reason why sending secure data through a Mozilla-based browser should be less trustworthy. If anything, it should be more secure as hackers and phishers tend to concentrate their efforts on cracking IE because it is the most popular browser.
The only problems you are likely to face are websites built by lazy developers that can only handle IE for Windows. It's best to keep a copy of IE lurking on your machine for these occasions.

This is in the Help about from Microsoft Internet Expolorer. Look at the first line! Mosaic > Mozilla.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?
IE doesn't contain any Mozilla code, nor does Mozilla contain any part of Mosaic.

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?
I used IE for many years...just recently though on some sites it began to crash and when it crashed it meant all the IE windows had to close. So I've just started using firefox and it does seem to be a tad slow on start up but the pages zoom along loading much faster. Not really had any problems with it. Still got IE there for when i want it.

AFAIK Mozilla is a co-operative of open-source developers, which has developed a number of products, including a new web browser called Firefox. (their older browser was Firebird).

Re: Which web browser should I opt for?
I've not had much of a problem with IE but I like tabbed browsing so I use MyIE at home
have dabbled with firefox and it looks good, loads pages quickly but the current lack of bolt on extensions means I stick to myie when I need a spell checker etc.

IIRC they didn't so much buy it as copy large chunks. Which I think was one of the complaints made by Netscape in their orginal court case. Netscape did own the code.
