Re: Press at it AGAIN!!!
tabloids will be tabloids, as much as i love this news its morally wrong, and i think the paper should publish an apology.
it does teach him to be a fair ref next time, he did make some quite outrages decisions.

Re: Press at it AGAIN!!!
And what are they gonna do?
When ever the tabloids get in trouble nothing happens, they may get fined but that is not enough! They should be harshly punished, everytime they print lies they should have to print a retraction of the front page which was to retract the statement and admit they lied (or in this case behaved childishly)
I have a feeling that the people doing this sort of thing are not football fans and rather those people who become interested and are suddenly Massive football fans with a opinion about everything when a euro cup or world cup comes by! Those who watch football day in and day out are used to refs making bad decisions and take losing better. This is awful blaming the whole thing on the ref
What papers actually printed the information

Re: Press at it AGAIN!!!
Meier forced into hiding
Quote:
Swiss referee Urs Meier has been forced to go into hiding after a hate campaign waged by the English media following his decision to disallow Sol Campbell's goal in the Euro 2004 quarter-final.
Meier has seen details of his private life splashed all over The Sun, who also published his e-mail address and laid a giant England flag outside his home in Switzerland.
He has received death threats and a barrage of hate mail after being held accountable for England's exit from Euro 2004 with his decision during the clash with Portugal.
Meier has even called upon the police to protect him and his family.
"I have security problems and this is not the right way to handle referees' decisions, whether they are right or wrong.
"The police are here with me now as we speak. I'm not going to leave Switzerland but am somewhere where nobody knows me."
Meanwhile 22-year-old Swiss girl Manu Peyer was attacked by England fans and left with a broken arm on a Greek island - and she believes that she was being punished for Meier's actions.
"I think they beat me up because of Meyer's ominous call on the goal," Peyer told Swiss radio.

We really need to sort out the tabloids in this country they have gotten away with too much as the past few months have shown us, tabloids cannot be trusted and the sun has shown and appealed to the worst nature of some of the moronic filth that call them selfs 'fans'

Re: Press at it AGAIN!!!
It seems they always have to find someone to blame. Beckham, Seaman, Meier.

It was DISGRACEFUL that the english press did this - and the fact that there is a backlash against it isnt surprising, yet you now want to escalate it again.
Get a god damn life.
Jesus - i give up with this god damn country.

Granted but your post was a bit over the top IMO, plus we recieved a complaint about the wording. I understand that if Matth had used the quotation as his own words (as you believed initially) it would have been very provocing but in such cases it would be better to report the post instead of reacting to it....

Re: Press at it AGAIN!!!
Agreed,
It was strong and i appologise. But it really annoyed me to think that people were advocating this and encouraging it.
Qutoes in that post changed the entire meaning of it.

Re: Press at it AGAIN!!!
Yeah, it's ok, I think it would have thrown most people.
But if someone HAD posted such encouragement, they would get their botty spanked
