There is an article on The Inquirer about some different techniques that are now being used to open pop-up windows, ones that the Google bar isn`t able to catch.
personally i use www.myie2.com a shell/front end for IE
one of the gadgets is a popup/popunder/adbanner stopper
i've had no problems with it
infact had to explicitly allow some popups, like the
open private message in another window
