I noticed my box was on channel 999 this morning so guess I've had the update (not checked yet) how do favourites work? Is the voice control only available on the touch remote?

Yes you need the touch remote for voice.
Once setup favourites can be accessed by keying the number you setup if you know it 1-99 to go directly to the required channel or you can swipe left when the mini guide is up to enter your list of favourites. You can also access it from the TV guide.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion
Thanks. I have the 1tb box, so don't have the touch remote. It has a small hole at the top which looks like it could be for a microphone, so I've always been a bit confused by it!

I appreciate not many want to buy one but they are available should you wish in the future.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion
I'm surprised to see the touch remotes are cheaper than the standard remote. When I looked this time last year when I had it installed the touch remotes were £40. Even at half that price I don't think it's worth it though when I already have a perfectly fine working one, albeit with "old fashioned" buttons!

Re: General Sky TV Discussion
Frankly this is absolutely laughable by ITV.
Quote:
ITV is set to hit Virgin Media and Sky with £140m (figure by Liberum's analysts) a year in order for it to carry its main channel, with the implicit threat that the channel could be taken off air if it refuses to pay up.

Not much to get one excited there unless one is called OB.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion
Sky Sources has told Media Boy HQ:
Quote:
-New Sky Q 2Tb boxes installed since 19th October have a new type of touch remote.
-Touch only works on the ffw and rwd bits at the top, the play/pause is a button.
-In the centre bit only the ring around is touch sensitive, the central "select" button isn't touch sensitive.
-You can turn off the touch functionality via the setup menu on your box as long as you have Q5 or newer firmware running.

Also comes with an external PSU unlike the original 2TB boxes.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion
Why the change to external power brick? That is surely a step back in terms of aesthetics and design?

It improves reliability and allows the box to be much smaller by removing a big heat-generator.

Means the manufacturer of the receiver doesn't need to do most of the CE, safety and UL certification that would be needed if the PSU was internal. The power brick can be a pre-compliant, off the shelf unit, usually from China.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion
It's a pan-European model where they will just change the power cable attachment on the end of the power pack, Sky Q is launching soon in Germany, Austria and Italy.
Powerline networking has also been dropped from these new boxes.
There's no longer an HDMI input socket, there's only one USB on the back and it's slightly longer (wider?) along its longest side.
