Re: Virgin Media to raise broadband and phone prices in Feb 2015

Just to add my twopenn'orth, was:

BB L
TV XL
Phone M
1xTivo
1x VHD
1xVHD+

Was paying £60 and change up until my loyalty discount ran out, making £72 odd, with a price increase of £4 and change coming.

Called to get the discount reapplied, was put through to retentions, and was offered:

BB 152Mb (XXL?)
TV XL
Phone M
same 3 boxes

for £67.99, new 12 month contract and Sky Sports and Movies bundle for 3 months. So in effect I'm paying £7 more (including the price increase) for a tripling of the BB, which seemed quite canny.

From VM's perspective, they have just extracted 13% more money from you each year at minimal extra cost to themselves, so they should be happy.

What's the best number to get through to retentions?

Was there other rises for Sky Sports and Broadband in the last 18 months? So in the last 18 months my bills are back to when they were and in six months I will lose the discount and be paying a total of £133.83

VIP Collection includes
Talk International
Talk Unlimited Extra
T V Size: XL
2 Additional V+ Boxes
1 1TB TiVo
Broadband Size: XXL
Sky Movies
Sky Sports
Sky Premium HD
Line Rental

I don't need or want Line Rental, Talk International or Talk Unlimited Extra, could even add Sky Movies but the discounts I lose on the package deal means I will barely save anything. Will phone them tomorrow.
Phoned they moved me

Big Kahuna Bundle
Talk Weekends

Sky Movies
Sky Sports
Sky Premium HD

New monthly package total £119.24
and Loyalty Discount £5 per month for 18 months so £114.24

So I'm paying less than I was before the price increase just cut the phone from XL to M so very happy

Which is fine - I'm getting 300% faster broadband (incidentally quicker than i can get from anybody else), a package of channels that I want, and two extra boxes at a heavily discounted rate compared to new customers. All of this is cheaper for me compared to any like for like comparison with Sky/TalkTalk/BT etc. on a 12 month contract.

The fact is, prices go up over time due to various factors, inflation, technology costs, blah blah blah. If there was another company able to offer the same/similar products and services cheaper, then i would gladly change. Currently, there aren't.

Thanks for your input though

Re: Virgin Media to raise broadband and phone prices in Feb 2015

Received an email.

I am currently paying £33.98 for XXL 152MB + M Phone, going up £3 which is around 9%. or are the price changes based on the price of the deal before any credits or loyalty discounts?

Also people that are getting deals of being upgraded to 152Mb, are there still "two" 152Mb tiers? one with the 12Mb upload which I have and a slower one? An answer to that would be appreciated.

Some of these percentages of price increases seem all over the shop, can anyone on these forums clear up the confusion?

I know there are very helpful VM staff here, or have they been told to keep their gobs shut?

Any of this to do with the so called planned Takeover Bid of ITV? Is that still on the table are we funding that?

I also read Vodafone may be acquiring Liberty Global, rumours I know, but would these prices be presented in any figures in discussions to Vodafone, boosting the revenue figures, total worth of the company?

I think ill be cancelling and going cold turkey after 20years, I am going to call though and really push rententions see what happens, I hate to say it I enjoy it, in a sadistic way lol

(Crikey I need to update my sig and avatar, its been a while lol)

Merry Christmas all.

There has only ever been one 152Mbit tier.

Re: Virgin Media to raise broadband and phone prices in Feb 2015

My bad I think im talking about the 100Mb was a while ago though, they might have made things simpler now.

So everyone on 152Mb is going to be 12Mb upstream, nice will look forward to some issues next year if I am still with VM and they are upgrading people to that tier, unless they have invested in the network, I am sure the genius that is called Ignition will be able to advise on that (Its a compliment lol)

It would be very nice to find out about how these price increases have been rolled out, for instance I was originally on just 152Mb BB which I signed a new contract for @ £32.99.

I then get a phone call a few days later with a VM person offering me phone line for 99p, yes you heard right so I said yes to that as well. So if the majority of this pay increase of £3 is for the phone line I signed up for at 99p then I feel a bit let down by VM, because I could have signed up for the BB on its own, so some info needed there, and even worse if the guy that got me to sign up for that 99p line was aware of these impending price increases. (that is of course if the majority of the percentage increase is for the landline, no one seems to know, I might ring retentions and have a chat, they are normally very good)

There needs to be some clarification on how these increases are arrived at and for which services, how about some transparency VM?

Hopefully a VM employee on these forums can help us out as they have done before?

Also any plans to upgrade 152Mb customers if people are getting a upgrade in new year to this service anyway? Mucho Gracious!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Re: Virgin Media to raise broadband and phone prices in Feb 2015

I'm away at the moment but plan on phoning virgin when I get home in a few days time. Basically I only started my contract at the end of November, and its only 50mbps broadband + phoneline. I'm paying:

- £144 up front for the line rental saver
- £4 /mo for 6 months then £15/mo there on.

But obviously with the £3 increase it'll mean I'm paying £7 /mo for 6 months then £18 /mo there on.

When I phone, what (if any) deal / compensation could I haggle for? I'm not so bothered about the price -I'm more ****ed off that I got the letter less than a month into my contract with them.

Is there any hope in getting something like free netfix for 6 months, or is this exclusive to those with tv services?

Re: Virgin Media to raise broadband and phone prices in Feb 2015

Got my letter just before Xmas, an extra fiver basically.

As my contract signed said "12 months half price", Not "8 months and then another fiver just because" I'll be calling ASAP and asking at least for this to be honoured.

I don't want out of my contract, I want it to be honoured.

Re: Virgin Media to raise broadband and phone prices in Feb 2015

On phone now 10min wait lol.

Time to pop the kettle on...

All sorted.

So basically £1 of the price increase is down to the phone line and the rest is for your other services, at least that gives you some idea of how the rises are worked out and which services they are for.

This round of downstream increases have been running since February.

And considering there have been two sets of downstream increases for all customers in the last few years, I see no reason why Virgin Media won't be planning more

Nothing has been announced about any increase to the top speed available on Virgin Media (and any related increases for the lower speeds).

200Mb has a nice ring to it Ben

15Mb upstream would be nice (I am not greedy), I was going to say 20Mb but cant see that one happening.

Also like to say always a pleasant service received from those Northern folk up in Teeside when I ring

The Scots are a bit cranky sometimes, not all I should add

I think I can make a pretty educated guess as to what the 3 tiers of service will be on the downstream side, and for at least one of them on the upstream side

Shame I'm not in a cabled area, those speeds would be invaluable when downloading PS4 content.
