I've noticed zero difference in my browsing experience over 20mb. BBC I Player in High Quality plays the same with 20mb or 50mb. I guess where it will come into its own is if HD Content is launched via the internet.
Also unless you have a download accelerator, most sites will limit your download speed anyway, so you need at least 5 connections to get a file to benefit from full 50mb.
Generally now, if I make seven connections I max fast sites our around 4.8mb (40mb), I've not been able to hit 50mb or 1.5mb upload unless its early morning time (1am onwards) when the networks are less busy.

Re: 50Mb areas
Called VM today.
First time around, I was told it will be £80 fixed charge for activation and setup and I was given a price of £56 per month including Phone M package.
Second time round I was told it will be £80 fixed charge for activation and setup and £54 until November 2009, then £56 thereafter, this again included Phone M.
Third time (note: they were different people answering the calls) I phone I was told it would be £48 per month until November 2009, then £54 thereafter, this again included Phone M.
Fourth time round, I was told £46 per month including Phone M + £80 installation and activation charge.
On two of the phone calls, two different indian call centre guys picked up and when asked their names, I was given Julie and Jill.
I was baffled, not only was I getting dodgy prices for 50Mb, I was getting staff lying about their names.
The other 2 times I had english sales persons answer and one did not have a clue what he was doing and the other, said I would get a call back regarding my enquiry as he did not know if 50Mb was available in my area, I had said that the Virgin Media website indicated that it was but he was not having it.
So I let him be and eventually 15 minutes later I get a phone call back from a completely different person, who seemed very competent and got straight to the point.
Now I am waiting for another call back to confirm installation date.
I am getting fed up of these call centre staff, its not all of them, its a very, very, very small minority and it beggars belief that they even get the job.
Also, can anyone explain why I kept getting different prices?
Eventually I took the £46 p/m including Phone M, with the obvious £80 charge.
I was driven nuts for the 1 hour 4 minutes that it took to get sorted.
I've never been through anything like this before and I certainly would not want to go through it again.

Re: 50Mb areas
The Seven Kings Exchange is being fixed on Monday, so for those of us with problems, I've been told things will improve by Monday.
At 1:30am this morning I was getting a solid 50mb and uploads of 1.5mb so I know the Service is capable, but they have identified an issue which will be resolved after the weekend.
Thanks
Mabs

Re: 50Mb areas
I've posted some stuff regarding congestion on upstream which might have been affecting you, hopefully they'll be executing a fix pretty quickly.
No idea how many modems share an 8.8M upstream but it's laughable that they are using them alongside 153M worth of downstream.

I asked that question and 200, mainly 20mb's and some 50mb's, users share that 8.8M, so its being replaced / Fixed Monday.

There are no dates (Schedule). Virgin staff themselves find out maybe a day two before an area goes live and most are kind enough to post the areas here. Just keep checking back.

Yes, I called the sales team, though I haven't received a call back for confirmation of date for installation.
