Feb 1929 Tommy Reid (Forward)
Jan 1938 Ted Savage (Half-Back)

The following have gone directly from United to Liverpool:

May 1921 Fred Hopkin (Forward)
Feb 1954 Tommy McNulty (Full-Back) £7000
Apr 1964 Phil Chisnall (Forward) £25,000
As you can see, it is a select few.
Apart from Paul Ince I cannot think of any others to play for both
clubs. John Gidman and Ted MacDougall were
on Liverpools books but did not make the first team.

It would seem united don't stand much chance then, we probably haven't got the money anyway.
As for Gerrard, something is obviously amiss between him and the club, Liverpool have offered him £100,00 0 per week which is more than Chelsea are offering, so maybe Real Madrid are favourites

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
Wigan to Forest seems to be the vogue at the moment.
First Nicky Eaden then Ian Breckin today...

Gerrard can get fooked!! No man is bigger than the club, my loyalty is with Liverpool Always has been even when Fowler/McManaman/Owen left, I think we'll be fine.

Looks like he changed his mind, wonder how much that cost Liverpool?
BBC
Think it's about time all football clubs had their wages capped, if players are good enough to demand large fees then they are good enough to get big private sponsorship/ advertising deals.

Changed his mind..........? More like no one wanted him for the money he was asking for.

Well he was being a clive hunt asking for over 100k a week to kick a ball around.
As for the Forest -- Wigan connection... Eaden, Breckin, now Gino Padula... at last we (may) have a half-decent left back.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
think Gerrard wanted to move abroad so when no one else went in from him he's changed his mind
don't think there was any problem with him getting the wages he wanted just the fee for the club
100k a week is obscene though.. what with live8 and that going on imagine the good they could do if this money went to people who really needed it

Ahem http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...&postcount=277
By all accounts it was just a "misunderstanding" and Gerrard didn't think Liverpool really wanted him to stay
