ED209, in answer to your question, I'm only really interested in the broadband speed and found it quite refreshing to see exactly what I was going to get in plain English, without any *'s next to the speeds. So far I'm very impressed so won't be changing. I'm in the Oakmead gardens area by the way and am more than happy with the standard of the installation.
v nice, will be interesting to see how virgin can compete with that
looks at upload and nudges virgin eh eh?

Hi all,

Apologies for not posting in a while, things have been pretty hectic as I am sure you can all appreciate!

@peterlovenoise - fantastic to hear you are enjoying your service, those speeds look great however we are eager to get a more 'reliable' and 'accurate' speed test developed as we believe the speeds you are getting will actually be a little higher than this!

I have sent a PM to anyone who asked a question, if there is anything I can help with or any feedback or questions people have, please let me know.

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

Have you any idea when FibreCity will be installing in the BH3 area? I have to get a phone line and broadband but will be tied to a 12 month contract and obviously I want to go with Fibrecity... If you are coming any time soon I will put up and wait but would like a clearer idea if you can give

Matt

How rude! Wouldn't catch Virgin / BT / Sky / whoever doing that.

Oh wait...

End of the year they'll have 100/10 beginning to become available then carrying on the rollout to the other 95% of the network over 2011.

i know, but as we are all aware virgin have always been a jump ahead of the competition, so there service on par to this means the only way they can compete and stay ahead is by price war
and i hope virgin will look alot further than the 10mbit upload especially as other countries are getting a better ratio Download:ping compared to us...

I have thoughts along the line of at the start of VM's rollout they will provision properly in the early stages, then to rush the complete rollout the rest will be done on the cheap.

Peter,

I know that this is in the internet servies section but I was wondering what the TV service was like, is a sky plus type unit with recording, pausing etc, I see that they mention HD TV, what channels do you get? Was wondering if there were any other interesting things about it? Have you been able to transfer your old phone number?

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Hey everyone!
Seems like things are finally happening then.. they've dug up my road and I've seen guys putting boxes outside people's houses.

So.. I was wanderin which package to go for.

I phoned Velcocity and they came back to me sayin that I was due for an install next week. YES! Finally, its been ages.. although I'm not holding my breath! Has anyone gone with them? I'd like to get some feedback on their service.
I'm thinking of going with Fibreband and seeing their free trial? It's quite a bit more expensive as far as I can tell. (both sites are quite confusing to mee )
Is anyone on the trial? Do they ask you for payment and stuff once it's over?
I'm not too bothered about the TV as I've got Sky but I'd quite like to have a trial, do you get to choose which package you try our or can you change mid-way so you can figure out which one you'd like to get kinda thing?
As for the phone, it doesn't look much better than what I have, free weekday calls would change things though
Thanks

John

Hi guys,

In answer to the question about the TV, you do a get an HD Recorder for free. It has a 320Gb hard drive from what I can make out. With my Fibreband service I get what is essentially Freeview HD (check any Freeview website for the lineup) which is great for a second room or if you don't already have any HD services from Sky or Virgin. The box is by no means as nice or user friendly as the Sky or Virgin boxes but then it is completely free and I can't complain about the picture or sound.

With regards to the speedtest, I 100% agree with you Mr. FibreCityBmth, these sites just aren't setup for these kind of speeds. However if you do the speedtest from London on speedtest.net that seems to get it spot on. Other places like the Northern locations on there fall way short of what I actually get.

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Morning all.

@BussyBear - Hi Matt, please send me your full postcode via PM and I will have a look at this for you no problem.

@crazyronnie - No word yet, however we will be announcing new Fibrecity projects shortly with more to follow!

@peterlovenoise - Thanks for the heads up on the speedtest from London, I will certainly have a look into this. Our technical guys are looking into developing something which will be more accurate, I will keep you updated on this. Do you mind if I ask how you found your installation experience? Anything that we should be looking to improve on?

Any other questions/feedback would be appreciated, I can then pass this on to the relevant people/teams try and improve the service being offered.

Regards

Re: [Merged] 100mbps for Bournemouth

Good news people!

I have now been installed with VelocityOne, they came earlier today about 20 minutes after the Fibre city man.
The set top box isn't as ugly as you guys have been talking about but the TV doesn't work :S
I did a speed test and can only get 47MbPs and rather worryingly it says 2Mb up? Is that something to worry about?
I'm also a lil confused about what to do with the other Set Box, the velocity people didn't seem to want to take it back.
