Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
It comes from a lot of ITK's at Utd. David Gill wanted Mourinho but the rest of the board were against it because of the instability so went with Moyes, also because Gill didn't really have a say in it anyway. Fergie led Mourinho to believe that he was the front runner when they last met but it turns out he recommended both Mourinho and Moyes to the board, who obviously went for Moyes because of the issues with Mourinho. Theres rumours that Mourinhos representatives contacted Utd when Fergie announced his retirement and that Utd told them they weren't interested. I don't know how true that is but the rest is correct.

Was the decision to employ Moyes instead of Jose linked to Gills resignation "fresh ideas" ?

I don't think so, the majority of the board wanted Moyes, there were a few who wanted Mourinho and Gill was one of them. Obviously if he was staying he would have pushed harder and listened to more but i think it would have still been Moyes. It wasn't a unanimous decision like the club said.
It was quite clear to see that Mourinho had his heart set on the Utd job, he wouldn't have made that so apparent if he didn't have something to go on. Watch this season, it won't be all lovey lovey between Mourinho and United/Fergie like it was in the past and its not because Fergie has retired.

So Gill left for the actual reason of fresh ideas, ending an era with Fergie? Any front runners for Davids position?

I don't know exactly why Gill left, just a change of jobs as far as i'm aware. I'm not sure he knew Fergie was going to retire when he decided to step down. Ed Woodward is taking over from Gill, he was the executive vice-chairman.
