Just like that woman who set fire to herself. You can give some people as much information as you like but they can't/won't take it in and act accordingly.

As the Darwin Award is presented for removing your genes from the gene pool this lady does not qualify as she has already had children

Re: [Update] Fuel tanker drivers vote to strike

Anyway.

I went to a filling station in Dumbarton this lunchtime and it was quieter than any other occasion when I've been there at that time of day. I guess everyone's still stuck with a full tank.

I filled a 5l plastic can with unleaded for my mower after I did the car. I felt a bit conspicuous in case people thought I was the last man left in the panic buying queue. . Nobody batted an eyelid though.

I have now got it home and I'm wondering whether I should try decanting it into a coupe of glass jugs by candle light just to see what happens.

You realise there'll be calls for your resignation if some moron somewhere doesn't detect the hint of sarcasm in your post and gets burned after deciding to try it?....

And those are the people who need educating more than most. If all else fails we use scare tactics...they usually work.

Unfortunately you can't give out two sets of advice (one for people who are thick, and one for people who are intelligent). In fact we would have to make that three sets of people, because of the people who are supposed to be intelligent, but think it will never happen to them (there are millions of these about).

Our grandparents may well despair. But then more people died in fires in their day. Although more firefighters are being killed on duty now than at any time since the second world war. And people storing petrol isn't going to help.

The obvious is that it is safer if you don't store petrol. Yet you seem to think you know better.

Maybe you should issue a retraction statement

Because you seem to think it is common sense, and safe to store fuel, even though there was never any need to do so.

It is common sense ,if there is a strike people will need to keep a jerry can of fuel either in their garage or in the boot of their car ,to ensure they don't run out of fuel on the road and cause traffic jams blocking the fire service getting to all the garages that will spontaneously combust despite being perfectly safe for years .You are making the mistake a lot of people in the emergency services tend to do ,and that is over thinking something and seeing danger where it doesn't necessarily exist .Most people know that petrol incorrectly stored is dangerous ,but kept in the correct container it is perfectly safe and thousands of people do it every day without blowing themselves up

Actually I was thinking about making some sort of crass statement about the price of pasties as an encore. Maybe people should avoid the VAT by buying them cold at Greggs and then heating them over a jug of burning petrol.

You can't educate people who refuse to be educated. You can't donate common sense to people who have none and force them to use it. Such people exist largely in a world of their own and don't seek or take advice on anything very much. There is health, safety and all sorts of other advice everywhere, freely available to us all yet these people are oblivious to it. Treating the vast majority of sensible people as simpletons and/or further restricting their freedoms on the basis of a small proportion of idiots is quite ridiculous and likely to be counterproductive. Yes you can shock some people into changing their ways but every year people die and get injured doing the same stupid things despite all the warnings, media coverage and even laws. Some people will never learn because they don't even realise they need to learn.
