Like I said, When United stop diving then you can start moralising about other teams diving. Every other team 'cheats' according to United fans. Chelsea cheated, Arsenal cheated, Liverpool are bunch of cheats meanwhile Ronaldo spent most of last season on the floor.

So because i support United it means i can't have an opinion on another team? I'm voicing my opinion on Arsenal cheating, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the team i support, Arsenal cheated and dived, they have a long record of doing it more so than most teams, and think about it, it's not going to show in the fair play league is it? Please don't tell me what i can and cannot comment on, thank you.

They do show 'positive play' in the Fair Play league. Diving is usually not considered positive play.

I am stating that Arsenal do not have a long history of cheating. Certainly no more than other clubs as you seem to suggest. Remember the player in the league last season with the biggest reputation for diving was one of yours.

I never bother with that kind of thing because 1) It rarely, if ever, changes course of a season 2) I don't like calling teams cheats. Not least because I am aware Arsenal's players are not above diving themselves. I will bring it up if United fans start calling Arsenal cheats though.

Anyway I don't want to turn the topic angry, I already said it was undefendable. I felt pretty bad watching it.

The thing is Damien, i never said it's only Arsenal players that dive or United players never dive, it was just a bit of banter about a dive that was the worst i've seen for a very long time. It was you that took it the wrong way telling me i can't have an opinion on it.

Nice goal from Celtic, Very narrow angle and very nicely hit.

Now to Friday and the Draw. Do not want to face Real Madrid. Some interesting stories could emerge though. Inter vs United? Maybe Ronaldo will face his old team?

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

Rangers are going to be in Pot 2 along with Inter, Real Madrid, Lyon and Juventus. UEFA really need to look at how teams get seeded as that is ridiculous, they're seeded above Athletico madrid and Wolfsdburg (German champions) for example. The only upside is if they get drawn in our group tomorrow

I don't think the UEFA seeding system is that bad so Rangers merit being in pot 2. The seeding system takes into account the teams record over 5 seasons as well as the record of other teams from that country.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

I've been looking at a recording of the Eduardo incident from behind the goal line and it definitely looked like his right foot was caught by the thigh of the goalkeeper, although at that point he appeared to have lost control of the ball anyway. At the point of contact his foot can be seen moving sideways. The slight contact was made when the right foot was in the air and only the ball of his left foot was on the ground. This may explain him going over with only a slight contact being made.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

What should happen to stop this crap from cheating players, and this was cheating, is that the organistations should force the clubs to fine the players, and also remove the 'goal' This was important game, and it is about bloody time the authorities carck down hard on it - shameful.

---------- Post added at 12:12 ---------- Previous post was at 12:11 ----------

And add to this, if people say, if you remove the 'goal' and that side win, then they LOSE the game as punishment, the authorities are a joke, as far as l am concerned.

Uefa is to investigate an alleged dive by Arsenal striker Eduardo during the Gunners' 3-1 Champions League qualifier win over Celtic on Wednesday.

Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith has called for the Brazil-born Croatia forward to be banned over the penalty incident at the Emirates.
This is a good idea and I hope to see a result to send a message.

However I am disappointed it's this one Incident which is getting so much coverage when players are diving every week in Europe and their respective leagues. There is only one other case of a player getting suspended for diving.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

The only way they can stop this is to bring in some form of instant replay.. The problem there is that the game will be stop/start as every manager wants an opposing takle, free kick decision or penalty looked at.. Perhaps though it should be brought in but ONLY looked at for serious offences (like red cards or penalties)

I don't think its a route the authorities wanted to go down, but if they get a result on this test case it could lead to something being done about it. I'm sure a player on every team has dived at one point or other and with such high stakes. One goal in Champions League money is £50m+, Premiership £30m+.

The assistant refs help the full ref come to a descision during the match. I really can't see why the 4th official, who has a lot of AV equiptment in front of him, can't help as well.

Don’t like the idea of replays. How about a 3 match ban for cheating retrospectively, sure some one might dive for a pen in a final and get a ban and say it was worth it but would anyone say it was worth Eduardo doing it when they were already all but through in a meaningless match, if we can get the players out of the mind set that it's part of the game we'd eradicate it very quick.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

You don't need to go to replays like Hawkeye and the cricket. It can be done seemlessly

For example. Eduardo dives and the ref immediately gives a penalty. Its a good minute or two before the player steps up to take the penalty. The replays are instant and in the minute or so the 4th official can clearly see there is no contact. So during the run up to the penalty the 4th official can contact the ref on the radio and tell him he dived. Eduardo is booked and play goes on. Play isn't interrupted any more so than the natural flow.

It only needs to be done for game changing moments. I.e. goals and sending off. It doesn't need to be if a player dives in the middle of the field.
