Re: Doctor Who
Moffat is trolling. I don't believe the BBC will let him. It's too big a risk.

I think it depends who they cast. For example Tilda Swindon is one of the rumoured names and that's an exciting casting choice even without the gender swap. If the quality of the actress and the role they're given is good enough to make the woman thing secondary then they can pull it off.
The danger would be an inability to get past it and allow it to stand or fall on it's own. The politics could overwhelm it irrespective of it's merits.

Re: Doctor Who
I am sure he is trolling as its not up to him, Also the new Doctor has already been cast.
That for me was THE most perfect episode of Doctor Who since it came back in 2005.
The Cybermen and The Master were genuinely evil for the first time in a LONG time.

Re: Doctor Who
I’d forgotten how awesome John Simm was as The Master, truly believable!
Pretty happy at them seemingly ending Bill though, all through her time on the show it felt more to me like a point of political correctness rather than proper casting.

I don't think they will cast Tilda. While I am certain she'd make a bloody good job of it, they've tended not to go for massively well known actors to play The Doctor (with the notable exception of John Hurt).

Not sure it's Politcal Correctness, it may just be more a case of Steven Moffatt seeming to do his utmost to ensure that the Doctor and his companion don't have any lovvy duvvy stuff. Amy had a partner, Rory who came along for most of the stories she was involved in. Clara had a boyfriend for most of one series (Danny Pink). He hated the doctor and was in a few stories. Even when she was single, Clara made it perfectly clear she was not interested in anything more than friendship.
Personally, I liked Bill more than I expected to, so I do hope she comes back in some form or another in the new series.

Re: Doctor Who
Also Rose had Mickey.
I think Moffat is just doing his best to troll the fans.
I think we might find out who the new Actor is around September time.

Although Rose was attracted to the Doctor - especially after the regeneration, and ended up with a hybrid human version of 10.
And Amy was very flirty with 11.

Re: Doctor Who
Looks like the new Dr won't be Phoebe Waller-Bridge out of Fleabag then? Shame, she could have pulled it off.

Re: Doctor Who
I don't mind if it is him. He was ok in Death in Paradise and I could see him being a good doctor if he played it similar.

Re: Doctor Who
I’m not so sure. He essentially played the same character in My Family and Love Actually, my concern is the eccentricity needed for a Dr Who would mean he’d simply wheel out that persona again.

Re: Doctor Who
Well just saying I'd be willing to give the guy a chance. Love actually and My family was a long time ago.
Recent work has shown he has other acting styles.

Re: Doctor Who
His picture seems familiar for some reason, but looking on IMDB, hes not been in anything I watch, or have watched.

Re: Doctor Who
He played the eldest son in a BBC comedy sitcom called my family and his character was a total idiot in it. Think that's why people are put off by him.
