Mullins expecting Fly progress.
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Mon
Quote:
Willie Mullins is convinced Hurricane Fly will improve by at least 5lb before the record-breaker bids to win the Champion Hurdle for a third time at Cheltenham in March.
The nine-year-old took his tally of Grade One victories to 18 when lifting the Ryanair Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday, defeating Jezki and Our Conor in fine style.
Hurricane Fly will return to Leopardstown next month for the Irish Champion Hurdle before attempting to retain his Cheltenham crown.

Tizzard team keep Card faith.
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Mon
Quote:
Jockey Joe Tizzard has lost none of his faith in Cue Card, despite snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in the William Hill King George VI Chase.
The seven-year-old, trained by his father Colin, looked like landing Kempton's showpiece over three miles on heavy ground but he weakened dramatically in the closing stages and was passed by Silviniaco Conti.

Hughes satisfied with Conor effort
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Mon
Quote:
Dessie Hughes is expecting an improved display from Our Conor in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle after being encouraged by his comeback run at Leopardstown on Sunday.
Last season's brilliant Triumph Hurdle winner was third behind Hurricane Fly and Jezki in the Ryanair Hurdle on his return from injury and is set to head back to the Dublin track on January 26, when he could renew rivalries with his old adversaries

Jezki to renew Hurricane rivalry.
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Tue
Quote:
Trainer Jessica Harrington has confirmed Jezki will tackle the brilliant Hurricane Fly for a second time in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on January 26.
The four-times Grade One winner emerged with plenty of credit after coming off second best behind Willie Mullins' incredible gelding, who was collecting an astonishing 18th top-level triumph.

Annie Powers to Cheltenham success
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Wed
Quote:
Brilliant Irish mare Annie Power strengthened her big-race claims when easing to an impressive success on her rain-soaked Cheltenham reconnaissance mission in the Dornan Engineering Hurdle.
Prominent in the ante-post markets on the Champion Hurdle and the World Hurdle, the Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old was running over an extended two and a half miles having been successful at just short of that trip at Ascot on her seasonal reappearance.

Hennessy possible for Lieutenant.
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Thu
Quote:
Mouse Morris will consider the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on February 9 for First Lieutenant following the gelding's fine effort in the Lexus Chase.
The nine-year-old was only beaten a length and a half by Bobs Worth in the Grade One over three miles at Leopardstown on Saturday which put behind him a disappointing run in the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal in early November.

Ballyalton pencilled in for March.
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Thu
Quote:
It could be next stop the Cheltenham Festival for Ballyalton with his trainer Ian Williams happy to draw a line under his New Year's Day outing at the course.
Owned by golfer Lee Westwood's father, John, Ballyalton suffered only his second career defeat when fourth to Aubusson in the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at a drenched Prestbury Park.

Cantering Sacre 'perfectly normal'
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...26#39;&day=Fri
Quote:
Nicky Henderson reported Sprinter Sacre's heart rate to be "perfectly normal" after coming through a crucial workout on Friday morning.
National Hunt racing's brightest star suffered his first defeat over fences when pulled up sharply by Barry Geraghty in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton on December 27, after which he was found to be suffering from an irregular heartbeat.

Sir Des Champs out for season.
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Fri
Quote:
Last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Sir Des Champs will miss the remainder of the current campaign after sustaining a tendon injury.
The eight-year-old's excellent effort behind Bobs Worth at Prestbury Park was sandwiched by victories in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown and the Punchestown Gold Cup in April.
|
Another horse seems to bite the dust in what is proving to be a very attritional jump season.

Top job 'great honour' for Cooper
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...Cooper&day=Sat
Lets hope he can handle the pressure as the brothers are not the best owners to work for.

Conti going straight for Gold
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Sat
Quote:
Silviniaco Conti is virtually certain to go straight for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup following his victory in the William Hill King George VI Chase.
While his trainer Paul Nicholls is unlikely to give his Kempton hero a prep run before the Festival, stablemate Al Ferof, who was third, is set to take in the Denman Chase at Newbury next month.

Hughes unfazed by Conor reverse.
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Sat
Quote:
Dessie Hughes is relishing the prospect of another clash of his exciting youngster Our Conor and brilliant champion Hurricane Fly at Leopardstown later this month.
Hurricane Fly recorded a remarkable 18th Grade One victory in a much-anticipated Ryanair Hurdle at Leopardstown last weekend, with Our Conor not disgraced in third on his first jumping appearance since his devastating Triumph Hurdle victory.

Dwyer at home after horror fall.
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Sat
Quote:
Martin Dwyer is recovering at home following a horrible fall at Southwell on Friday.
The 2006 Derby-winning jockey was unseated from Columbian Roulette when looking to have the opening 32Red Handicap at his mercy and received immediate attention on the track. He was unconscious for six minutes, but had regained consciousness before going to hospital,

Thank god for that as at the time it look very serious.

Re: Horse Racing
Terry Biddlecombe dies at 72.
http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Sun
Quote:
Three-time champion jump jockey Terry Biddlecombe has died after a lengthy illness at the age of 72.
A familiar figure in National Hunt racing for over 50 years, Biddlecombe was a leading light of the 'cavalier' generation of jump jockeys and among his big-race victories was the Cheltenham Gold Cup success of Woodland Venture in 1967.
In later years he was one half of racing's much-loved 'odd couple' as the husband of trainer Henrietta Knight, and he shared in the success of the legendary Best Mate, winner of the Gold Cup on three occasions.
|
Sadly racing has a true giant in more ways then one from the game.
RIP Terry
