Queen Mother Champion Chase hero Sprinter Sacre would have been a long odds-on favourite to take his unbeaten record over fences to 11, but misses out after returning a dirty tracheal wash earlier in the week.

Alan King has two big chances in a top-class renewal of the Racing Post Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown.

The trainer, who notched his 1,000th domestic winner over jumps earlier this week, runs Balder Succes and Manyriverstocross.

Balder Succes would probably be three from three over fences but for falling on his second start, while Manyriverstocross just edged out the reopposing Claret Cloak in a thriller on his chasing debut at Exeter.

David Bridgwater is hoping Wyck Hill will be happy jumping the big Aintree fences when he tackles them for the first time in the Betfred Becher Handicap Chase this afternoon.

The JP McManus-owned nine-year-old, who made no show when unplaced in the United House Gold Cup at Ascot on his reappearance last month, has been schooled over Aintree-type fences.

Sire De Grugy made the most of the absence of Sprinter Sacre to run out an impressive winner of the BetVictor Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown for the father and son combination of Gary and Jamie Moore.

Always held in the highest regard by trainer Gary, the seven-year-old had been surprisingly beaten at Cheltenham last month, but put that blip right in emphatic style.

Gitane Du Berlais turned in a dominant front-running display in the Betfred 'Double Delight' Fillies' Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree.

Willie Mullins' French recruit was beaten at odds-on when third on her Irish debut at Down Royal in early November, but the form has stood up and she was a 5-4 market leader to gain compensation on Merseyside.

Hinterland reigns in Henry VIII.

Hinterland went one place better than 12 months ago to claim the Racing Post Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown.

Winning for just the second time over fences, Daryl Jacob's mount was held up for much of the way as Claret Cloak and Balder Succes cut out the running in the Grade One affair.

But the Paul Nicholls-trained five-year-old (13-2) arrived on the scene powerfully and cruised to the front between the last two fences. Grandouet, who had unseated when not out of it in the race Hinterland won at the Esher track last month, gamely battled back after being headed, but went down by a neck.

Arvika Ligeonniere enjoyed a facile success for the Willie Mullins team after stablemate Sir Des Champs made an early exit in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase at the County Kildare track.

The field had been reduced to three when last year's winner Flemenstar was taken out on Saturday and there was drama as early as the third fence where Sir Des Champs fell.
