Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Speeds - Well, I cannot check now, but I got connected at about 9pm last night, and I initially got much worse downloads than previously - However, after about half an hour I was getting about 6Mb downloads from usenet.
I havent really tested the connection yet, but it is faster - I guess any congestion is more noticeable with the potentially faster speeds (I always got the maximum on the STB till the STM kicked in)

Download a program like Grabit. Set it up and download something.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Are there any disadvantages too registering for the upgrade. Are those who stay on 2mb likely to pay a lower price eventually ?
thanks

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Those who dont register will still be upgraded later in the year so there are no advantages to not registering as far as I know.

If they register they get upgraded by the end of July and if they do not register they get upgraded during October.

Only one big disadvantage, you missed out on the chance to be pre-upgraded. I don't see why you wouldn't want to register now.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
I think the reason they say you need an upgrade is because they want everyone on the same modems and not because your present modem cant handle it. VM would help themselves a lot more if they viewed their customers as adults and told them the real reason. The idea that we are all yoofs who should hang on every word their `boffins` utter is extremely patronising.

Just don't complain if at some point Virgin make a technical change and your modem stops working!
If Virgin send you a new modem - use it!

Isn't it also the fact that with these new cm's,that the customer can't log into them and check things out for themselves when their BB service goes tna up,they just have to take VM's word for the fault or not as it has been said .

No all you do is the following.
Open a browser and in the address bar put or click just the link > http://192.168.100.1/ the password and username are both root if required.
And that works on all modems, try it.
