There are multiple threads about retentions. It’s not unreasonable to expect people to use them.

The existing deal ends in 2019, so I'm optimistic we will get these channels then.
Mr Donald wants them earlier, but he's going to be disappointed, I think.

The MPEG2 variants of ITV HD have been replaced by MPEG4 versions.

Funnily enough half an hour after this post it appeared elsewhere as “unconfirmed reports” when it’s an easily verifiable fact.

Tune to ITV HD and then see which video format the tuner is using in diagnostics maybe?

But that only tells you the format in your region, not what is used elsewhere. jfman claimed "The MPEG2 variants of ITV HD have been replaced by MPEG4 versions." Note the plurals!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2018)
The region on Digitalbitrate has ITV HD and ITV Wales HD. Both are broadcasting in MPEG4. Two separate regional versions justifies my use of the plural. It’s alsp an easily verifiable fact by going to that website.
While I can’t say “this applies in all regions as of this moment” the fact the change has taken place in some regions (at least) isn’t speculative.
I think it’s reasonable to assume someone on the forum who doesn’t work for VM is talking about in a specific area.
If someone says that for instance ITV3 SD is broadcasting in MPEG4 nobody asks them to corroborate that it applies to all areas of the country.
If it doesn’t apply to all areas then the chances are it will shortly as that’s the direction of travel.
I could ask members to test as BenMcr suggests but it’s not an effective use of anyone’s time. I presume you can confirm this is work in progress?

The way people view their TV is changing thanks to the Internet - previously Sky's business model was to get a lock-out on Satellite TV broadcasting for the UK. The idea was that broadcasters who wanted to use satellite had to use their system and pay them for an EPG slot. Sky therefore wanted to promote use of their satellite service through their exclusive Sports channels. That's why they weren't really interested in pushing them on other services such as Virgin Cable, or when they were forced to offer them didn't give an attractive price. They wanted would-be Sky Sports viewers to buy into proprietary Sky satellite gear.
Now that people are turning to streaming for their TV media, there's no longer the same push to tie the Sky channels to their proprietary satellite service (which I believe they are strategically migrating away from in favour of broadband internet streaming) so they'll want to make their pay channels as accessible as possible, to make their money back for what they paid for the content rights. I think they'll be much more willing to make a good deal with Virgin.
