I think this is a line that they have rehearsed to get rid of us cold callers. I rang o Thursday last week and was told exactly the same thing... we are close to completing etc etc etc

Maybe he had 50 more to get through, but there's certainly 50 or more just on here that haven't received calls (myself included) so I'd not put a lot of stock in what he said.
I will happily wait patiently to see what happens and when. While of course I'd love it sooner, I don't mind waiting as i'm also happy with our current setup - TiVo is just a bonus whenever it arrives.

herein lies the problem I am far from happy with my samsung box and if I am to stay with Virgin I need Tivo. the box is my only gripe though but it is a big one.

There are still measurable power levels. It's just that because DTV comes from massive transmitters rather than a local street box, if the transmission isn't powerful enough, the engineer can't just run to the local transmitter and turn up the power.
Of course, it may be possible that a better aerial might help.

Very likely needs one of those specialist aerials that many people now have to receive an optimal signal.

If you ask Virgin, it hasn't been made available anywhere as it hasn't launched yet. Have people in NI had boxes installed yet, that I don't know.

Re: TiVo
Still not been called myself, on XL TV and signed up on 1st day available so if down to last 50, (1) just my luck to be left in the last batch!! (2) working from home today so ideal to call VM!
However are we not talking of the last 50 of the first 5000 out of 20,000 or all current XL TV customers out of that 20,000 (so me!)?

There are VIP customers who have had cable since United Artists were around who are yet to be called so hang in there!
Someone on DS is saying the guy came today to install it, couldn't sort out the return path and has had to return to base to check his emails to find a workaround. He said he personally wasn't aware they were even getting installed until April but I have seen plenty of guys reporting February installs myself.
UPDATE- He has had it installed now and will report on how it works later.

LOL.. At the moment VM will be very strict on powerlevel like Telewest once were on modem levels.
I bet within 2 months the "acceptable" levels have been widened just like modem levels now have. These days they say levels are only important if they are causing disruption to your service.
Anyone with a tiny bit of knowledge knows out of sync levels are bad.

Actually modem levels have been lowered in the last six months.

Or in my case it doesn't due to insufficient signal.

It is due to poor reception in my area pre-switchover. Ok, it's not exactly the same analogy but if a Freeview box doesn't receive enough signal it doesn't work. If you try to get a satellite dish to get a signal through trees or the dish is misaligned it doesn't work.
Royaltiger was implying that the Tivo box was different for requiring the correct power levels in order to function properly.
