I do think there is a point where you should separate good ol fashion banter and rivalry with an honest assessment of the football itself. It's incredibly annoying to talk about football with someone blinded by fanatical support to their team, a support they believe will be undermined by any objectivity.

I was bought up in the bad old days when the players got on the bus to the match.Supported Liverpool through very very thin(1959-) old 2ed division a few times I was on the same bus as Alan A'Court I was at Anfield before Bill Shankly.I was only 5 when I started,An uncle took me although he was an Evertonian. My dad was an Evertonian but would never take me or pay for me so my pocket money went on Liverpool.I left school in 1969 and started to pay my own way, also going to some away games. From about 1971-1989 I went every game in the UK and many European games.I was then in the crush at Hillsborough and was left mentally scared spending time in hospital for panoria etc.Which I still have along with nightmares and flashbacks. So I have never been back to Anfield except for the 19th Hillsborough Anniversary which a very good friend I talked to on the LFC Forums came up from Yorkshire came up and took me taking care of me.
That's all I can write for now.

Touching story, nice to see how much a club can be part of someone's life. Sad to hear about Hillsborough, I cannot imagine the grief and horror you experienced. Sorry.

I heard a nice story about AC Milan. After Hillsborough games across Europe held a silence, 8 minutes into the game the ref blew his wistle and the silence would start. However at AC Milan the fans broke the silence to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone". An example of how people rise above the relatively minor details of supporting a club.

Thanks for Sharing that story though.

I went to Hillsborough last Friday to pay my respects and I was disgusted with the tiny and almost hidden memorial that wasn't even at the Leppings Lane end. No names of those lost, like they want to wipe it from their memory. Its a shame its not so easy for all of us.

Sadly and much to my shame I have never been back to Hillsborough.
One day God willing I would like to go to Turin to pay my respects to the 39 Juventus fans killed in the Heysel Stadium.I was there that day too.I have met a few Juventus Fans when they have been over here in Liverpool most accept a hand of friendship but some do not(I do not blame them ) It was a terrible tregedy

Thanks for sharing though Sox. Must be terrible not being able to see the team you love. I can't imagine it.

Especially since Itallian football fans are completely mental, it means even more.

However, I don't think it will extend to Millwall fans. Apparently a few of them are going to sing songs about Davenport and Collison.

There will always be a small minority of people who disrespect others
I know of a small minority of United Fans and Everton Fans who wear and sell anti Hillsborough shirts.Liverpool fans themselves are not blameless there is a small minority of them do the same with anti Munich shirts.
I understand some of the hatered directed at Liverpool by some fans after the lengthy ban on European Football from 1985- forget now was it 4 or 5 years.Memory's not that good.

PS
It's not so bad with all the TV coverage now I have Sky Sports and ESPN.
Do miss the companionship with the opposition fans though we have always arranged to meet before and after a game for a drink.

Maybe that's what provoked this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8221451.stm

I have no time for Millwall. Was pleased they didn't get promoted last year and hope they continue to stay away from the Premiership and other decent teams and supports.

Its too early on in the season to go making comments like that, lets just see how the season pans out. The transfer window hasn't even closed yet FGS

We aren't the only ones to have a bad start and although I'm not happy about it, what kind of fan would I be to write us off after 2 bad games? Real fans stick through thick and thin
