Re: [Merged] VOD
The whole NTL franchise in South Wales is getting the new software: Swansea, Cardiff, and the other cabled towns inbetween.
EDIT: And welcome to the site by the way! Where are my manners...

VOB Complete Roll Out by Easter !
Hi
well I've read thus thread - lots of people are saying up to 2 years 4 VoD rollout ? ? ? ?
I for 1 would be very surprised if the roill out isn't completed by Easter 2005
It's logic mate - having spend $$$ on the Research and Development they ain't going to get that $$$ back unless (a) people use the Service (b) they roll it out to all of us asap so we can start spending our hard earned $$ on Vod

Yes, but it also costs "$$$" for the VOD equipment in each area. So they've got to balance outlay against return.

I would be very surprised if it is complete. It's not just buying the kit, it's paying people to install and commission it.

It's a bit of both - the kit has to be bought, then installed. Each region is slightly different in terms of network, state of the head end premises, etc. There's a dedicated VOD rollout team currently ploughing through the country. It'll take time, but it's happening in a number of regions.
If you get the software download, you'll know it's imminent in your region.

Re: [Merged] VOD
Yup - watching Three Pints now in Swansea. Well pleased. :-D
I especially like the way the front panel display changes to show the current position.

Re: [Merged] VOD
Well - sounds like a good product, can't wait to actually use it!
Does anyone know if it just works with all the existing boxes? I had an engineer out yesterday because my Pace 1000 keeps freezing when I'm hammering the broadband - it was the second visit. First time out they changed some cable and put an attenuator on the back of the box.
This guy came out to install a SACM but seemed surprised they hadn't done a STB swap first time. "You're going to have to have a new one anyway" he said "They're rolling out VoD round here (Manchester) in the next few months and it won't work on these old boxes".

Misinformed I think - if we've gone to the effort of making it work on the 4001 and 4010 (including subvariants) it's a bit silly (when we come to do Bromley) not to do it on the DOCSIS Pace varieties too. After all there are more of them. He may be confused as there is currently no VOD-enabled software version deployed for the 1000, but that's not surprising as the effort's been quite sensibly on the Langley platform boxes up till now.
