Hannon breaks new ground.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Fri

Quote:
Richard Hannon broke his own record for the number of victories in a calendar year as Musical Comedy took the trainer to the 219-winner mark at Haydock.

The Marlborough maestro first broke the double century barrier in 2010 with a haul of 210 winners and the progress has continued as he managed 218 winners in both 2011 and 2012.

Third shows Fitz way home

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:
Third Intention lowered the colours of the Irish raider and 4-7 favourite Rebel Fitz in a fascinating duel for the Cheltenham Annual Members Novices' Chase at Prestbury Park.

Colin Tizzard's 11-8 shot, who made all the running and jumped flawlessly under the trainer's son Joe, had a contrasting style to Mick Winters' star, who had won his previous five chasing starts but was over-exuberant at some of the fences and got in a bit close at others.

Triple could pose Champion threat.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:
Connections of Triple Threat are convinced the drop down to 10 furlongs for the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot will enable their colt to show his true colours.

Trained by one of the most successful handlers in French racing history in Andre Fabre, Triple Threat could only finish eighth in the Prix Niel on his latest start, but that was his first attempt at a mile and a half.

Farhh Edges Champion Thriller.

http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/r...mpion-thriller

Quote:
The Godolphin charge travelled smoothly into the contest chasing the pace set by stablemate Hunter's Light and he had just enogh left in the tank to see off the late charges of Cirrus Des Aigles and Ruler Of The World.

The winning distance was a neck and there was only half a length back to the third as the big three charged at the line.

Re: Horse Racing

QEII glory for Olympic

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:
Olympic Glory routed the opposition to win the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot.

Richard Hannon's three-year-old burst through a narrow gap between Top Notch Tonto and Kingsbarns a furlong out and the race was over as a contest.

The supplemented Top Notch Tonto ran an unbelievable race to finish second, but Richard Hughes was able to coast home aboard the blinkered Olympic Glory (11-2) to win by three and a quarter lengths. Kingsbarns finished third.

There was a strong pace set with two pacemakers in the field, but Top Notch Tonto loomed up two furlongs out and looked to be going best of all. That was until Hughes brought Olympic Glory to the head of affairs and sealed the deal within a matter of strides.

Re: Horse Racing

Diamond sparkles for Murtagh.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:
Johnny Murtagh's unbelievable season continued as he brought Royal Diamond with a storming late run to pip Harris Tweed in the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot.

Murtagh has farmed many of the big races this campaign but Royal Diamond, whom he also trains, was sent off at 20-1 after running a lifeless race in the Irish St Leger, which he had won the year before.

Harris Tweed appeared to have fought off all his rivals with a brave bid from the front, but Murtagh made up late ground to pounce by a nose right on the line, with another three-quarters of a length to Eye Of The Storm in third.

Seal shows way home

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Sun

Quote:
Seal Of Approval turned the Qipco British Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes at Ascot into a procession as she assumed complete control in the closing stages.

Stepping up massively in class, the 16-1 shot relished the testing conditions under George Baker, who was deputising for the injured Hayley Turner after her nasty fall from the James Fanshawe-trained filly in the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster finished her season early.

Slade powers to success.

Quote:
Slade Power held off Jack Dexter in an exciting finish to the Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot.

Trainer Eddie Lynam, who won the King's Stand Stakes with Sole Power at Royal Ascot in June, has huge strength in depth in the sprinting division and also saddled the third home, Viztoria.

Cirrus in frame for Hong Kong.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Sun

Quote:
Trainer Corine Barande-Barbe is in no rush to decide whether Cirrus Des Aigles will head to the Far East later this year following another fantastic run in defeat in Saturday's Qipco Champion Stakes.

Winner of the race in 2011 and second behind the mighty Frankel 12 months later, the seven-year-old was sent off favourite to regain his Ascot crown having looked right back to his best in the Prix Dollar at Longchamp.

Cracking start for New One

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Sun

Quote:
The New One made a scintillating return to action as he left Rock On Ruby trailing in his wake in the William Hill Download The App Hurdle at Kempton Park.

So impressive in the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March before being narrowly denied by Zarkandar at Aintree, the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained five-year-old was the 1-2 favourite for his seasonal comeback.
