most of the times they will find the icon they want to change it to and then:
right click the icon you want to change
select properties
then there should be a option to change the icon click that
then you find where you saved the replacement icon to and then, choose that click apply and hey presto icon changed. that is in most circumstances
other times if you download a theme sometimes that will have different icons for things.
