Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season

sure Schmiechal made a few mistakes but the difference was his first thought all the time was i know i'll punch and flap at the ball

he had the sense to realise that if he had the ball or got it off the pitch then the other team couldn't score.. plus he used to TALK to the defenders.. an amazing thing for a keeper to do

at 36 VDS is never going to improve and will keep flapping, punching and making more mistakes.. if he hasn't learnt to shout at the defenders and tell them what is around them he never will

not seen MOTD will take a look.. yes all keepers make mistakes but at their age Foster and Kuszczak can improve alot plus they don't flap at crosses all the time

Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season

And it seems everyone disagrees with sherer about Van der Sar with the team of the year -

PFA Premier League Team of the Year 2007:
Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra (all Man Utd); Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo (all Man Utd) and Steven Gerrard (Liverpool); Didier Drogba (Chelsea) and Dimitar Berbatov (Tottenham)

Eight out of eleven from Manchester United is some achievement.

Nice, but it will count for nothing if there is nothing to show for it other than some of the best attacking football seen in many a long year. As a United fan since the late 50's I would still rather watch a team attempt to play in the 'United' style and win nothing than watch the, grind out a 'result' at all costs paraded by certain sides.

yep seems i'm the odd one out but as this is voted for by the players and we all know how stupid they are

i guess it's easier to moan and complain that it is to praise people for doing well

still the weekend has gone and we can look forward to Tuesday, really need a big performance from the midfield and attack as we know we are short on defenders and will have a very make shift defence

JOSE`S GREAT ESCAPE IN A LAUNDRY BASKET

New reports have claimed that Jose Mourinho flouted UEFA's touchline ban in 2005 by using an earpiece, handwritten notes and a loud speaker before escaping detection via a laundry basket.

[...]

According to The Mail, 'Gaining access to the dressing room for the first leg at Stamford Bridge was simple enough. He arrived shortly after lunch, even though it would mean waiting more than four hours for his players to join him. "In the afternoon you haven't got anyone around," said the source. "He just walked in." It meant Mourinho was in place to give his pre-match team talk and all-important half-time address and watch the game on the television that is in the dressing room.'

[...]

'Mourinho was not waiting for the players at the end of the match, which Chelsea won 4-2, because he had already allegedly clambered into one of the kit skips. He was wheeled out of the dressing-room by members of the backroom staff and, it is believed, back into the leisure club in the Chelsea Village hotel at the ground, where it had been reported that he spent the entire evening.

[...]

Nor was his nerve wavering. Undeterred by the mounting suspicion, Mourinho's ruse for the second leg in Germany was just as remarkable as his laundry basket getaway.

Having made an ostentatious appearance in the stands at the Olympic Stadium, Mourinho complained of media harassment and duly returned to the team hotel to enjoy its convenient privacy. According to the source, a loud-speaker had been set up in the Chelski dressing room, enabling Mourinho to talk to his players at half-time on the telephone.

'"There was a massive speaker," a source said. "José was at the hotel." Uefa's representatives had surpassed themselves yet again by approaching Faria to check if there was anything under his hat. There wasn't.'

Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season

thanks for the link there.. this is where giving managers red cards and sending them into the stands is pointless

alot of managers watch from the stands anyway so that is hardly a punishment.. if a manager is sent off or banned from the touchline then he should be locked in the referees room for the game before, during and after the match, the fouth official can keep an eye on him or get another steward to do it for safety reasons

If that's true then Chelseas are simply out of control - the only form of discipline they'll listen to is docked points.

Quite good at attacking though Russ

But United will have their work cut out in the San Siro, that's for sure.
