They have already stated that it will be by area, the problem is not the 120 Mb/s it is the fact that all the tiers will have their upload doubled at the same time, which has required installing extra upload capacity and as you know that is always a finite resource with DOCSIS.

Unless I'm wrong and "wireless" is now - theoretically - as good as "wired"?

Depends on your wireless kit. I do get 'full' speed on wireless (~105), but then I use my own router and I'm lucky that I appear to be the only person running a 5GHz network round here. I accept that as 5GHz kit becomes more prevalent than things may change. I also accept that as VM introduce higher and higher download speeds I will hit the limitations of my wireless setup, and will then have to look at cabling the house, but as a major whole house renovation is on the cards in the next 18/24 months it's the ideal time to future proof the network.
Cheers
Grim

Uhh I easily get over 200 from a wireless connection.

that is what the current schedule is for. They are adding the extra capacity and then doubling everyones speed and they have already done some areas and are in the process of doing the rest. There shouldnt be any need for an additional phased rollout of 120mbit because they arent doing any extra work for it. It is a change of tier for all 100mbit users to 120mbit.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
50mbit is being doubled/has been doubled to 100mbit. If you are on 60mbit you have already been doubled and are on the 30mbit doubled tier (whatever you want to call it). There will be three tiers post doubling; 30, 60 and 120. You are staying where you are.

I was on 10mbit and I've been doubled to 20---so where do I fit on the new system?

You have an option of moving across to L 30Mbit.

Normally yes - it would be £20 for delivery of a SuperHub. However, as with anything, it's worth talking to Virgin to see if there are options

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
Hrmmm no notification or anything but I appear to be on 60meg now (according to speednet) even though my area isn't due to be done until September.
And I noticed how?
Well I've noticed over the last few days that I can't seem to play youtube videos anymore
If I select any type of HD it will start to play, then it will stop the picture and continue on with audio only for some reason, which is incredibly annoying. Anything I can do ?
Pingnet test (when it runs) gives me this.
Oh joy, is this what to expect from an upgrade?
