Lockwood turns on Supreme show

Saeed bin Suroor's Lockwood looked a progressive customer as he collected the Group Three Greene King Supreme Stakes at Goodwood.

Although successful in a race of the same class when trained by Andre Fabre last year, he had been dropped down a few levels during the summer and picked up a little conditions event at Thirsk last time.

Course specialist Boom And Bust made a break for home with two furlongs remaining but Silvestre de Sousa had something to aim for on the 4-1 chance, and caught him up close to the line to score by half a length.

Breeders' Cup an option for Jwala

Jwala may end her racing career in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint following her victory in the Nunthorpe Stakes.

The four-year-old filly, who will retire to the paddocks at the end of the season, will first head for the Qatar Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp on October 6 after her success in the five-furlong Group One at York on Friday. That win gave her an automatic entry to the Turf Sprint at Santa Anita, giving connections food for thought.

"She seems to have come out of it in really good order," said trainer Robert Cowell.

The HQ Group Two is the next port of call for the Luca Cumani-trained six-year-old, who appears to have overcome an aversion to the stalls with victories in Salisbury's Sovereign Stakes and the Betfred Celebration Mile at Goodwood on his last two starts.

Owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing have decided not to supplement Telescope for next month's Ladbrokes St Leger.

After a frustrating start to the season which involved missing the Investec Derby, Sir Michael Stoute managed to get the highly-regarded colt back on track for a late summer campaign and he made an effortless return at Leicester.

Despite suffering a defeat at Haydock, Telescope came back to his very best with victory in last week's Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, a noted Leger trial.

James Doyle spoke of his "great honour" at being appointed retained jockey for Khalid Abdullah's UK-trained horses as he prepares to kick off the new association aboard 2000 Guineas favourite Kingman at Sandown on Saturday.

Doyle's star has been in the ascendancy over the last couple of seasons, winning the Dubai Duty Free in the Abdullah silks on the Roger Charlton-trained Cityscape last year. The 25-year-old has won a further three Group Ones this season for Charlton aboard Al Kazeem.

The Ballydoyle squad is spearheaded by Debutante Stakes winner Tapestry, who was supplemented for 22,500 euros at the confirmation stage.

"It was always the plan to go there with her. She's won her two starts very nicely. She's in good form and everything seems very well with her. It looks a good race and it will be a good experience for her," O'Brien told At The Races.

James Doyle's much-publicised debut as Khalid Abdullah's new retained rider went off without a hitch as next year's 2000 Guineas favourite Kingman made a second successful visit to the racecourse in the Betfred Mobile Solario Stakes at Sandown.

A two-length defeat of rivals rated over 100 in a Group Three event was more than respectable but unlike the juvenile's explosive entrance at Newmarket in June, this was more a performance of controlled power.
